Hi I'm Chris

I'm a husband, a student, an employee, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a senior at my university and graduating with a degree in hospitality in the spring of 2011. I'm the youngest of four children and the only boy. I'm black and I married a beautiful white woman. I'm outgoing, a very positive person, and I like meeting new people. I enjoy all sports, watching good movies, and reading amazing books such as The Chronicles of Narnia.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a Mormon because it has brought me great joy ever since I joined the Church. When I first heard about the Church, I was working at Chuck-E-Cheese. One of my good friends - that I didn't know was a Mormon at the time - was working with me the night he introduced me to the Church. He invited me to come to the Church to play basketball, and from there I was hooked. I was later invited to go to Church on Sunday to see for myself what the Church was all about. As I attended Church for the first time, I felt something special about the people there and the lessons that were being taught. I wanted to learn more. I started taking the lessons with the missionaries and they invited me to be baptized. I told them that I didn't want to be baptized because my dad wouldn't approve; he was a Southern Baptist preacher. However, I continued to come to Church because I knew that's where I needed to be. Later, I was invited to attend a Youth Conference - this was for all the youth ranging from areas around Gainesville, FL to Tallahassee, FL. I attended this Youth Conference and felt the Holy Ghost so strongly testify to me that I should be baptized and that everything will be alright. I was baptized by best friend, who originally shared the Gospel with me at Chuck-E-Cheese, and it was the greatest feeling ever. Heavenly Father blessed my life from then-on. My family, including my dad was accepting of me joining the Church. I served a full-time mission in California and learned Spanish. I was sealed to my beautiful wife for time and all eternity in the Temple. And now, I was recently called to be the 2nd counselor in my ward's bishopric and was ordained a high priest (I am the 3rd African American ever in my stake to be ordained a high priest). I choose to be a Mormon because I know that the Church is true. I know that Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet of God, and that he saw both Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know the Book of Mormon to be the word of God; it truly is another witness of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I was just recently called to be the 2nd counselor in my ward's bishopric. I assist the bishop any way that I can so that he has time to meet with people who need assistance. At times, I sit down with people of the ward and extend to them callings, or opportunities, to serve in the ward.
