Hi I'm Mary

I'm a student, friend, daughter and sister. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently attend college, and hope to soon certify to be a high school English teacher. I love art, traveling, ice cream, yoga, and reading books. However, I love my family more than any of these things combined.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and surrounded by members my entire life, but I didn't always know it was true. For me, understanding and belief came in small pieces, progressively growing over time. I remember the first time I felt it was true, I was eight years old. My parents had just come to me explaining that my dad had lost his job, and we were going to have to move. I was terrified, and worried about what was going to happen to my family. I went to my room, and got down on my eight year old knees and poured out my heart and my worries to God. Then, I opened up my Book of Mormon and began to read. I came to chapter one in 1 Nephi, verse 21 which says, "I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, to make them mighty, even unto the power of deliverance." At that moment I felt my Heavenly Father's love for me. I felt peace. I felt that He knew who I was, and He was watching out for me. Ever since that day, this seed of belief has grown a little each day. I have come to know more and more my Savior Jesus the Christ, that He knows me, and that He loves me. I know that I have a loving Heavenly Father, who loved us enough to sacrifice his only begotten Son, in order that I may receive grace for my many mistakes and weaknesses. This knowledge means everything in the world to me. Because of Jesus Christ, its ok for me to make mistakes, I can be forgiven. Because of Jesus Christ, I can be with those I love for eternity. Because of Jesus Christ, I can find peace and happiness every day, despite what the world throws in my way.

How I live my faith

Each day, as I live life I try to remind myself of the simple things- That I am a child of God, He loves me, He has a plan for me, and that plan is perfect. No matter what the plan might look like, I know eventually it will lead me to greater happiness than I can imagine. So every day I pray, I study the scriptures, I count my blessings, and I try to serve the people around me. I know that if I do these simple things, everything else will fall into place.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Mormon's believe the purpose of life is to have Joy. Everything we do, or don't do, is designed to help us obtain this joy. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, we believe we can obtain joy and peace despite what terrible things may lurk in our past, or the challenges we may face in the future. Show more Show less
