Hi I'm Matt

I'm a husband, father, food scientist, youth leader, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and kids are my greatest treasures. We love to do simple things as a family such as neighborhood bike rides, walks, movies, or just being together at dinnertime. Our latest family fun has been boating - its a great way to be together. Our daughter was married 8 months ago one son is serving a mission. Our youngest son is a junior in high school. I am employed as a food scientist and currently serve as the young men's president in the church.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the Mormon church right after I was born. Sometimes I wonder what my life might have been like without this upbringing, but I always thank my Heavenly Father for this precious gift. So, why do I stay with the Church? Jesus Christ is my anchor and strength. His life and mission keep me on the straight and narrow way. Above all, I know that it is true! The Holy Spirit tells me it is true. I could never turn away from these feelings and deny what I know. I have found the fullness of Christ's gospel in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

Early morning scripture study and prayer starts everyday perfectly. I find that a daily focus on Jesus Christ helps me remain true to the gospel. When ever I experience one of those not-so-good days I can always draw on strength from the Lord and my scripture study helps me remember God's words so that I can think about his teachings at anytime. I attend church every Sunday. Taking bread and water to remember the sacrifice of my Savior is an important part of Sabbath Day. I look forward to renewing my baptismal promises each week to keep the Holy Spirit with me. I also love meeting with fellow church members and gain strength from them both in Sunday School and conversations. I love to serve others. I look for opportunities to help others even in the smallest of ways. I currently serve as the young men's president which gives me the opportunity to teach the 16-18 year old boys in church on Sunday. It provides a great opportunity to teach good principles to young men who have many important decisions to make in their every day lives and about their future. Hopefully, they will remember to follow Christ because of some simple lesson I may have helped them learn or by my own example. I love, provide for, and take care of my wife and family. It can be challenging to find time to do all that is required of me but between me and the Lord I know we can accomplish anything.

What is the First Vision?

The First Vision is the experience of the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. As a young man of 14, Joseph struggled to know which church to join. He found the various religions to be confusing and at odds with each other. He studied the Bible and found James 1:5 which states that a person can ask for wisdom from God. He decided to do just that. In 1820, he knelt in a grove of trees not far from his home and asked God what he should do. It was then that God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that none of the churches of the day were correct. Many taught good principles but lacked his authority. He was told by the Lord that the truth would be made known to him. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

During the Savior's earthly ministry he asked nothing of the people he served. As our Savior and Redeemer, he asks only for a soul willing to follow him. Jesus has never asked for repayment for his work and atonement - he ministered out of love alone. Each of us are asked to follow in his footsteps and as his representatives we should serve in the same self-less manner, that is, for the glory of God the Father. Our motivations should be founded on love alone - love for God and Christ and all of God's children. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a record of scripture prepared by the people who lived in the Americas before the arrival of Europeans in the New World. This record was recorded on plates of brass which were given to the Prophet Joseph Smith to translate. The resulting book of scripture is called the Book of Mormon and it contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by holy prophets and Christ himself. This record contains the account of Jesus' visit to the American continent after his resurrection and ascension in the Holy Land. The Book of Mormon is very dear to my heart. I know that it is true and any person desiring to know of its authenticity may know by a simple study of its pages and a sincere prayer to our Father in Heaven asking if it is true. By the Holy Ghost anyone may know of its truth. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Jesus Christ should be at the center of our faith. He is our Savior and Redeemer. He is our friend. He paid the price for our sins and asks that we turn to Him for salvation by taking upon us his name through baptism. Doing so requires faith in Jesus Christ the Savior of the world.
