Hi I'm Reid

I'm a mechanical engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband, a Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student and cyclist. I love to think analytically through mechanical designs. When I'm not engineering I love to hit the trails and go mountain biking or the pavement and go road biking. Above all that I love to spend time with my beautiful wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ, that He lives and loves each of us on this earth. I began to believe in Jesus Christ while I was reading the Book of Mormon through for the third time. You see, I grew up in the Church, reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Like many families in the church mine often read the scriptures, prayed and went to church together so I had and early and long introduction to the Church. When I was eight I made the decision to be baptized because I felt that it was the right thing to do. However, as I grew older I began to realize that if I was really going to be a Mormon then I had to believe for myself that God was real and that this was His Church. People in the Church always tell you, "if you want to know for yourself you've got to read the Book of Mormon and pray." I wanted to know so I did, but it seemed to take forever to get an answer. Through my teenage years I read the Book of Mormon a couple of times, but I never felt anything strongly about it. It wasn't until the third time that I read through the Book of Mormon that I began to feel inside a warm feeling as I read passages written by ancient prophets that testified of Jesus Christ. That feeling was the Holy Ghost telling me that what I was reading was true. I knew that if the Book of Mormon was true then Jesus Christ really did suffer and die for our sins and was resurrected three days later. I also knew that if the Book of Mormon was true then Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ did appear before and commanded Joseph Smith to restore the fulness of the Gospel on the earth. Ever since then I have tried to live my life the best that I can so that I can return to live with my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

My wife and I go to church with mostly married college students. On our campus is an LDS Institute of Religion. We serve together by encouraging members of our church to enroll in Institute classes as well as their regular classes. We also help on a council that provides several activities for young married couples.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Reid
Faith in Jesus Christ has given meaning and purpose to my marriage. It is because of His gospel that I have reason to love and cherish my bride in this life and beyond. His gospel can strengthen and heal any marriage too. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

Reid
This is done through the tithes and offerings of church members. Tithing is designated as one tenth of your increase, or income. Offerings are additional donations that members may pay to support various Church operations. Show more Show less
