Hi I'm Amy.

I grew up as an army brat, but finally settled on the East Coast. I am a happy mother of five kids. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have five kids, so I'm a busy stay-at-home mom. I love to volunteer in the school where my kids attend as often as possible. Since I used to be a teacher, it's great to be back in a school setting. When I have a spare minute (in between changing diapers, helping with homework, paying the bills, cleaning the house, etc.!) I also really enjoy reading. Generally, about the only time I get to read is at the gym on the stationary bike! But at least I'm motivated to exercise. :) I also love to travel, but of course that doesn't happen much any more! I lived in Germany as a child and later when I was serving a mission for the Mormon church. During college I went to Jeruasalem on a semester abroad. Mostly my travel now includes trips from the house to the school, the house to the grocery store, the house to church... You get the idea!

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to be raised in a Mormon family, so I knew about the church from a young age. However, my parents always encouraged me to find out for myself if it was God's true church. When I was a teenager I began earnestly seeking a sure knowledge of my own. Over time, many experiences (like going to church regularly, reading the Scriptures often, and saying meaningful prayers) combined to give me the assurance I was looking for. I can't count the number of times I have felt the peaceful love and joy in my heart that help me to know I have found the truth. Living the gospel makes me happy, and it gives meaning to my life.

How I live my faith

I am lucky enough to work with the children in my congregation. Every Sunday I get to spend time with kids who are such a good example to me of simple, trusting faith and finding the joy in life. Each Sunday we have some time together as a big group, when I occasionally get to teach short, fun gospel lessons. We also have some time when the children are divided into classes. So I also make sure the teachers are happy, checking in with them occasionally to give them support as necessary. In addition, I am active on the PTA board at my children's school. This year I organized several new after-school clubs, and it has been exciting to watch the response as parents and students are getting more and more involved in the education process. As a former teacher and member of a church where learning is highly emphasized, my children's education is very important to me.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Amy.
My faith in Jesus Christ has everything to do with my relationships with my children and husband. Because I want to follow His example, I try every day to be a better mother, wife and friend. I try to be more patient and loving, and I try to be more like Him. I often fall short of that lofty goal, however. Whenever I do, I know that I can repent. Because Jesus suffered for my sins, I can turn to Him and promise to try again, and He will forgive me. He will hold my hand and stay by me in my efforts. I am grateful for His patient love.
