Hi I'm Dayton

I ride motorcycles, rock climb, run marathons, and I love the Utah Jazz. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 21 year-old kid from Cedar Hills, UT. I'm serving in the Florda Tallahassee Mission. You've probably heard about it. It's the best mission on earth. I like music, but I think my taste has changed so much over my mission that I don't really know who to put down. I love my family, of which I'm the third child of six.

Why I am a Mormon

Faith is a personal decision. While yes, I have been raised in the church, my parents could only take me so far before I had to take over for myself. I have felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that the Book of Mormon is true. I have felt it testify of the temple, of the scriptures, and I cannot deny it. While yes, doubts come, I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and that if I live righteously, I can be happy here and for eternity.

How I live my faith

This has changed over my mission. When I first created this profile, I thought I was being cleaver when I said that because I'm on my mission, "my faith lives me." But that's not true. Or at least, it's not true any more. I live my faith through doing better every day, and not expecting spirituality to just happen. One of the insights that I love from the Book of Mormon is that God created both "things to act and things to be acted upon." When we live our faith, it requires action, because God wants us to grow. The everlasting Gospel of God is demanding, but I couldn't imagine it any other way.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Dayton
The Word of Wisdom is a code of health that we live by. It states that we shouldn't partake of coffe, tea, tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs. One thing that I've always found notable about it is that it was given back in the 1800's, before anyone knew the damage tobacco could have on their bodies. In the '40's, missionaries were called out, because cigarettes were thought to be healthy. There were advertisements and studies that showed how beneficial they were in losing weight and stuff. Now, mormons are being heckled because we don't drink coffee or tea. This is what I know: GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING. I don't need a graph of the probability of getting cancer if you smoke to follow his commandments. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Dayton
PRAY ABOUT IT!!! I don't have to quote an endless slew of scriptures for you to know that to find out what God wants and thinks, ASK HIM! Every member who has a solid testimony of the Chruch has prayed about it and gotten their own answer. Pray with faith and be open to the answer, and God will let you know the truth. Just MAKE SURE your heart is in the right place when you're praying. It has to be sincere. You will never forget your answer. I promise. Show more Show less
