Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a college student. I'm in a band. I'm a full time missionary. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a freshman in college. I play guitar and sing in a local reggae/rock band called Capital 7. I enjoy playing shows with my band and hanging out with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a devout Catholic. Attending church weekly and every retreat that was availible to high schoolers. It wasn't until my Junior year that everything changed. I began going to church in December of 2009, with my girlfriend. At first I was only going simply to spend more time with her. As time progressed I began to really enjoy going to church, and began to realize that I was able to learn something each Sunday. Soon after I became a regular at church, my girlfriend gave me a Book of Mormon. In the front page she wrote, "Ryan, Remember to Pray! Your Heavenly Father is always listening. I know if you do this you will not be disappointed." She asked me if I would read it, and I said yes! When I got home that night, I received a text message from her telling me to read Moroni 10 verses 5-6. These verses were the perfect preface to reading the Book of Mormon. When I first began reading I did not get much out of it, because I had not prayed with a sincere heart. It was not until I was able to humble myself did I receive my answer. One night I was reading in the Book of Mormon and prayed to know it was true, as I began reading as I usual I was completely overcome by the Spirit. This was the very moment I gained my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Due to parental issues I was unable to take lessons with missionaries until I went to college, and it wasn't even until over halfway through the semester till I could be Baptized. I have come to know that this church is true. That Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, that he prayed to God in a grove of trees, this is where Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ revealed themselves to Joseph and told them he was to restore Christ's Church on Earth. Thomas S. Monson is our Prophet on the Earth today. I have a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true, that it can change lives, as it has mine. I know that this book is another testament of Jesus Christ. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

How I live my faith

Currently, I am serving a full-time mission for the Church! I am serving in the Cauayan Philippines Mission! I live my faith by inviting others to come unto Christ! I study the scriptures everyday and rely on the Holy Ghost to teach me and be an effective missionary. The language barrier is often difficult to deal with! I depend on the Lord to help me understand what I am hearing and reply appropriately.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Ryan
We are not required to serve missions, however it is a service that is strongly reccomended and encouraged for young men. Missionaries can now start serving when they are 18 for young men and 19 for young women. As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I look at my opportunity to serve as a great blessing. I would not want to be anywhere else in life at the moment. I attended two years of College before I came on my mission. I plan on continuing my education after my mission! School is very important but serving my Savior, Jesus Christ is far more important. Nothing in life is more important than serving. I am serving in the Cauayan Philippines Mission. I am learning Tagalog. This is a very difficult task but with the help of God I can accomplish it. I have been in the Provo Missionary Training Center, and I have already mastered an unreal amount of the Language. I have been teaching, singing and praying all in Tagalog, this is impossible through the worlds terms but anything is possible through the Savior! Show more Show less
