Hi I'm Christopher Thelin

I'm happily married to my best friend, I study mechanical engineering, I love dinosaurs, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am in my late 20s, and am married to my best friend. Being a husband is my favorite role I've had in life. I have been studying at BYU for many years now. I am studying Mechanical Engineering because I want to help solve problems in this world. I also explored Industrial Design as well – my goal is to use my interests in design and creativity to make life easier for other people. I believe in having a wide variety of interests - I love design, but also Dante, WWII history, fine art, and dinosaurs (I worked at a dinosaur museum for 3 years discovering new fossils). I come from a crazy family in Virginia with 1 younger brother, and 3 little sisters. I love going home because it usually involves a lot of fun holiday traditions, homemade short films, and spending time with tons of cousins and family that I’ve grown up with. It’s the best. My interests are pretty all over the place. I love music – Coldplay is my absolute favorite band, and I can analyze the deeper meanings in their songs for hours with my brother, but anything from Imagine Dragons to Glen Miller can make my day. Movies and film are also huge for me - I love examining the art of filmmaking. I also want to improve my Spanish and Portuguese. I became (sort of) fluent in Spanish during my two year missionary service to the Spanish-speaking population in Ogden, Utah. I love Spanish, and the Hispanic people and culture. If I can use that skill to help others, I want to do that in my future as well.

Why I am a Mormon

My grandparents joined the Church back in the 60's, so I was born into the Church. I have enjoyed being a member all my life, through the good and the bad, the sweet and the difficult times. When I was about 14 I really began to want to come closer to God, and know if the Gospel was true or not. I prayed, and read the Bible and the Book of Mormon a lot. That year I gained a testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Gospel. I prayed to know, and the Lord answered me by His Spirit. I had sacred sweet experiences where the sweet peace and surety of the Holy Ghost filled me with the knowledge that the Book of Mormon is true, that this is the true Church, that repentance and forgiveness is possible, and that the Savior Jesus Christ is a real being that loves me and redeems me from sin. I follow and remain true because throughout my life the Lord has clearly answered me that this is the true Church. I know this is His Church. There is really a prophet of God to guide us in these days, sent of Him. The Book of Mormon is an anchor. It is tangible evidence of the Restored Church and the Savior, and guides us to Him. These things are the basis of my actions and outlook on life. I know it is true.

How I live my faith

A little over 5 years ago, I finished my service as a full-time missionary. In the fall of 2008, I volunteered to serve a 24 month mission. The Prophet of God on the earth, President Thomas S. Monson, called me to serve for 2 years in the area of Ogden, Utah. My purpose was to invite others to come unto Christ by accepting the Restored Gospel. They can do this by having faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice, and following Him by repenting, being baptized by immersion, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and being faithful to the end of their lives. It has been a sweet experience. We worked 7 days a week, 10am-9pm, seeking people to teach, teaching in people's homes, and inviting them to make changes in their lives to follow the Savior Jesus Christ. I saw first-hand that God's hand guided us, gave us the words we needed to say to each of His children, and as we shared our testimony, the Spirit of God filled our hearts, as well as the hearts of people we taught, with the knowledge that this is true. I have seen people follow the Spirit, and decide to follow Christ by being baptized into His Church. It is a sweet privelege to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and help God's children come unto Him. By teaching and inviting others to do these things, I have come closer to Christ, and have felt His approval because I was trying to do the things He has asked me to do. I still strive to share my faith with my friends, serve people daily as Christ would, and seek His Spirit's guidance.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Christopher Thelin
A Prophet, just like Moses or Noah. Just like them, God gave Jospeh a mission: to restore the Church that had been lost after the death of Christ and the Apostles, and to guide the Church by revelation. He saw and testified all his life of God our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ our Savior. Show more Show less
