Hi I'm Trent

I'm a Youtuber, a student, and yes, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 22, working at a real estate marketing company and living in Utah. I am an avid fan of Youtube, am active in that and several other online communities, and enjoy learning new ways to communicate with different people. I love music, both listening to and creating it. I've been playing guitar for about seven years now, though I'm not nearly where I want to be with my skills with it. I am single, working up money to go to college soon. Though I'm not sure at the moment what I will study, I do know that education is a major goal in my life. I served a full-time mission in Los Angeles California, working the majority of the time with the African-American and Latino communities, learning Spanish fluently and a conversational ASL.

Why I am a Mormon

The church has always seemed to me a puzzle piece that fits in perfectly. It shows me who I want to be, and shows me how I can get there. It brings me hope, faith in my Savior, and overwhelming peace of heart and mind.

How I live my faith

I try to live my religion seven days a week, not just when I go to worship on Sunday. Daily Scripture study, daily prayer, keeping God's commandments, and always seeking to help others are all aspects I try to emphasize in my life. I attend a weekly meeting outside of normal Sunday worship meetings, called "Family Home Evening" with other single students in my area, where we get to know each other and have a fun activity weekly.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

While the Bible, being the record of the early Christian church, is integral in the instruction and worship in our church, after much persecution and the death of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, the authority they had was lost from the earth. The world stopped receiving revelation, the church stopped calling new Apostles like before, and after Constantine, they sought instead to use positions in the church for social or political status. Several righteous men tried to show these errors in practice, and in attempts to reform the church, created new ones. However, without that sanction given from God, as had the original Apostles, they could only hope to create something similar, not exact. God knew that we would need that authority to act in the name of God again on the earth, because it is through that authority, that sanction from God, that saving power can be used in things such as baptism. For example, reading and studying a book of law does not give you the authority to rule in a courtroom in and of itself. You need to receive the authority, that sanction from the people, from those who can give it to you. The same goes for the authority of God. One cannot just "assume" the authority by reading God's words. One must receive it by one sent by Him. And this is what happened with Joseph Smith in 1830. Show more Show less
