Hi I'm Tom

My wife and I live in Maryland. We have 5 kids and 8 grand kids. I'm a Federal employee in Washington, DC. I love my life.

About Me

I enjoy a lot of activities like playing the piano and the baritone horn, growing lots of vegetables and fruits in my garden, lifting weights, but most important is living the gospel and helping others. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, I graduated from Granite High School in 1973 having been mentored in music by Doctor LeGrand L. Anderson. My mission was in Independence, Mo. under President Graham W. Doxey, and I served in Alton, IL., St. Joseph, MO., Jennings, MO. (in St. Louis) and Gardener, KA. I leaned a lot about people, how to talk and really listen to connect to an individual when speaking with them. As a Russian linguist I served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, flying 35 combat missions and retired in 1997 in Ft. Meade, Maryland. My AF career was spent in Monterey, CA, RAF Mildenhall, England, Augsburg, Germany, San Antonio, TX, Omaha, NE and finished up at Ft. Meade, MD. We've stayed here every since. I married a beautiful Houston, Texas beauty, Lori Lee Hausman, in 1983, had four children and together raised my son, Ontario, from a previous marriage. Our other children are Ben (saxophone), John (trumpet), Anna (violin) and Christina (voice). We currently live in Odenton, Maryland and have a second home in NYC for our musician children who go to the city frequently to perform. My mother helped me learn to show love by giving service, how to grow vegetables and to show my emotions. My dad taught me the value of hard work and taking care of our family.

Why I am a Mormon

Because i know that my Heavenly Father speaks today as he always has, to individuals like me and through prophets like Joseph Smith and Thomas S. Monson, I am a Mormon. My faith and love of the Savior is given a depth of meaning, more clarity and focus because of the calling and work of the Prophet of the restoration, Joseph Smith. I would feel spiritually lost without the added testimony of Jesus Christ as borne from the pages of the Book of Mormon, the available additional latter-day revelations and the instructions from living prophets and apostles.

How I live my faith

Becoming like God and Christ is best achieved by serving and doing things for others, by giving service to my family, friends and co-workers. This helps me grow closer to my Savior and to help feel His love for me and all of His children.

What is being a Mormon like?

Tom
For me, being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints means thinking and doing things about my commitment to my faith everyday. It means that the Lord is a part of my daily life, that He is reachable through prayer and even thought as I think of ways to take care of my family and assist others in our community, persons who might be members of my church, but most who are not. As neighbors, we all want to live together in peace and harmony. Show more Show less
