Hi I'm Talea Sievert

I am a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm serving in the Texas Houston Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an only child and a convert to the LDS church. My grandma married a Mormon man when I was young. We moved from Arizona to Idaho so I was exposed to the religion at 4 years old and baptized at 8. When I was 11 they divorced so my grandma and I moved back to Arizona. Some complications arose and we ended up not going back to church. I started going back to church when I was 16, mainly because I wanted to and I couldn't find good friends anywhere else. Through my church experience it started out as only social but I soon learned the spiritual aspects of it and put my whole heart into living it. I know exactly where I would be without the church and it's not a reality I like to think about. I feel so blessed that I have the blessings of the restored gospel in my life. What has happened recently is: I was in college but I dropped out and got into business. I realized that I didn't like the degree that I was going for and since I messed around and didn't care too much about school earlier, I didn't pass a couple classes. I soon found that it would take longer than expected to get my associates which would not work with my plan because I am expecting to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So I put school aside and I'm now focusing on business and church.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I choose to be. I know exactly what my life would look like if I was not Mormon. My whole being and who I am today is because I have grown in the gospel. I hate the feeling of being lost and alone and that's exactly what I was. I felt like no one cared about me, I felt like all I did was exist and people barely took notice of that accomplishment. I started going to church because the people there seemed to genuinely care about me. But people come and go. I stayed because in the process I found out that Heavenly Father genuinely loves and cares for me and he is never going to go away. I believe that gospel has been restored to the earth by Joseph Smith. I believe that we continue to have revelation from our Heavenly Father through modern day prophets. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer and that he atoned for all of our sins. I know that I am no where near perfect but through Him I can become better than I was yesterday and one day return to live with Him.

How I live my faith

I believe what Aristotle said "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." I live my faith by habitually following the principles and commandments that are set for my protection and well being. I don't think that there is any really big moment that might make someone say "This is it! This is what I've been working for; what I've been living for." No, it is the small things done day by day. The small decisions that, to most of the world, go unnoticed. The small things compound into something great. Whether it be great character or a great lack of character. No matter which way one is going, it's the little things that get one from the person they were to the person they are. This is why I choose to do the little things each day that will bring me closer to our Heavenly Father. I go to a young single adult ward in my city. All the people who attend the ward are from the ages 18-30. I find this ward very fun and I have made some very good friends here. I am a ward missionary in the ward, so my responsibility is to meet all the new people, help them feel welcome, and teach classes on occasion.
