Hi I'm Michelle

I'm a wife and a mother of five children and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married 21 years. I am a mom of 5, 4 boys and 1 girl. My oldest is on a mission for our church. I am a "domestic engineer". My husband and I decided that when the children started coming I would stay at home and be a mom. This is a lot of hard work with the world looking down on you and says you don't have a career, whats wrong with you. But I love being a mom. I can't imagine anyone else taking care of my children. I take every opportunity to be where they are. Not because I so much love every field trip they go on but because I love them and I want to know their teachers and their friends and be where they are. I love to water ski. I am the only mom I know that drives the boat to the lake and launches it and takes them wake boarding, tubing etc. I love to snow ski. Last year we moved to Minnesota where we were able to snow ski. I went with my 14 year old andI l thought he would ditch me but instead he showed me around the mountain. I love to spend time with my husband. Go on dates or trips. With his career I have been able to visit many places with him. I love to spend time with my friends. I love to service others. I would rather babysit for a friend or take out a friend who is maybe sad or down than clean my house. Family and friends come first but I love to exercise so I do make time for that. My favorite exercise is weight lifting. I also enjoy cycle class. I started running this year and I completed my first 5K a few months ago.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member all my life. My parents struggled and finally divorced when I was a senior in high school. At that point I stopped going to church. I didn't loose my testimony, I just didn't want to live the religion right then. After I married my husband a set of sister missionaries knocked on our door. My husband joined the church and he brought me back. Being outside the church never really brought me happiness. I'm a mormon because happiness comes from following God's plan. I know where I came from, why I am here and where I am going. I know my Father in Heaven loves me and knows me personally. I have seen his hand in my life too many times to deny it. I can't imagine life without believing we are here for a reason and that we will live after this life. Being a mormon is more than going to church, it is a way of life. It is engrained in every fiber of my body. I find joy in following the commandments. It's not always easy but easy is over rated. I know the trials and challenges in this life are for my growth and that I have the opportunity to live with my Heavenly Father. I know I am a child of God.

How I live my faith

My current calling in the church is Stake Seminary Supervisor. I am over the teachers who teach the high schoolers a religion class everyday. I train new teachers, have a monthly training inservice, visit each class twice a year, do the graduation program at the end of the year and deal with any problems with teachers or students. I love scouting so I am involved in the troop committee. I am currently the advancement coordinator. I am also a merit badge counselor. I love to bring the boy to the end of the trail when he receives his eagle. I volunteer in the schools. Whether its classroom helper or folder stuffer or book fair, I am there. I am a visit teacher to 3 ladies. I baby sit for one of them quite often. She has a set of twins and a 3 year old. I live my faith by trying to do what I see needs to be done. I try not to say, "someone else can do that".

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Many outside the church think Mormon women are oppressed. They are not. We are equal. We might not hold the priesthood but we are just as valued as the men. The church could not function without the women of the church. God created Eve as a helpmeet for Adam not as a slave and that is how we are in the church. We can pray publicly and be leaders over the women and young women of the church. There is no greater blessing then to know that I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father and that I am valued just as much as the men are. Show more Show less
