Hi I'm Ashley Nef

Studying to be a professor or teacher. Would love to be a writer. Going on a mission to Rome, Italy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student, having finished 3 years so far. I'm a bit of an academic - I love studying and learning in nearly every field of human knowledge, but I am majoring in English Literature. I love stories - they speak to me in a language that touches my very soul, which is why I feel inclined to become a writer. But I also love teaching, sharing the knowledge and information that I have learned from others. At the moment I am taking a break from my schooling to go on a mission in Rome, Italy. I cannot think of a better way to spend the next year and a half of my life than in the service of God and his kingdom.

Why I am a Mormon

As a university student and life-long scholar, I purposefully go about exposing myself to the various philosophies and approaches to life that the world has to offer. In doing so, I have seen the good and bad of each perspective, and have weighed the merits of each. I have come to the understanding that the gospel of Jesus Christ, as laid out in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon, is the most perfect, excellent way of living. There is no other mode of life that can bring such joy and happiness and peace as that which I have seen taught by this Church. I know God lives, for I have seen His work in my life and in the lives of others in unmistakable ways. I know that Jesus Christ is His Son, our Savior, and our brother. I know that the scriptures - the Bible and the Book of Mormon - contain God's word and His will for us. I know God is a God of love - He is our Father, and He loves us with a love so magnificent and deep that, at our best, we can only contemplate the tiniest aspect of it. God is doing everything He can to get us back to Him, and it is up to us to follow the plan he has set up so that we can become as He is, and live as He does.

How I live my faith

Most of my service in the church has been as a teacher, giving lessons on a variety of topics from love and faith and God's plan to more technically specific subjects like the history and stories related in the scriptures. One of the greatest ways I go about living the life God would have me live is through developing deeper and more meaningful relationships with the members of my family. My Mom, Dad, brothers and sister are all my best friends that I have in the world, and we go about our lives making sure that whatever happens, family is priority. My family is the most important thing in my life, and I know that because of God's plan, we will be together forever. I am now serving as a missionary to share God's message of love, peace, and hope with others.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Ashley Nef
A testimony is a personal understanding of truth from God. It is confirmed by the influence of the Holy Spirt of God through thoughts and impressions upon the heart. For myself, I feel in my heart and know in my mind that God is our loving Heavenly Father, that Jesus Christ is His Son who came to earth and provided a way for us to clear ourselves of mistakes, pains, guilt, and whatever else that prevents us from being truly happy. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that through God's power, he restored Christ's true church to the earth. I also know the Book of Mormon to be a true record that testifies of Jesus Christ, and confirms my testimony of Joseph Smith. I know there is a living prophet on the earth today because God wants his children to know His love for them, and His plan for us all to return to Him. And I also know that anyone can know the truth of my testimony, and gain one for themselves if they will pray to God and read the Book of Mormon. God speaks to all our hearts if we will simply look for him and open our hearts. Show more Show less
