Hi I'm Ben

I live in Chandler Arizona and I am a Mormon. I grew up in Ogden Utah and became a Mormon when I was 19 while in the Marines.

About Me

I have been married to my very beautiful wife for 34 years. I am also the Father of three sons who are great and good men. My oldest son is married to a wonderful woman who has filled my heart with joy and has become a beloved daughter. I am also a grandfather. My grandchildren are precious and fill my life with joy. I am a Vietnam Veteran having served four years in the Marine Corps with a tour of duty with The First Marine Division near Danang Vietnam. After being discharged from The Marine Corps I served a Mission in London, England. I attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. When my sons were the right age I helped coach them in Pop Warner Football. I enjoyed coaching them and others. I earn my living as a Certified Public Accountant and enjoy working with my clients. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints for almost 42 years. I was baptized a member at a base swimming pool at Camp Pendleton California while I was in basic training. My membership in the Church has been an anchor to me my entire life. As a result of being a member I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and family and many wonderful friends. I have also been given peace to my soul in times of fear and uncertainty and comfort to an aching heart in times of sadness.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in Ogden Utah. Many of my friends were Mormons. I had a very close friend who was fun to tease. I liked teasing him about the Church. One afternoon I was giving him a pretty good tease about the Church. He finally asked me if I had ever read the Book Of Mormon. My response was no. He then asked me to read the Book Of Mormon because as he said I really couldn't judge the Book until I had read it. I had to agree. I took a Copy of the Book of Mormon home with me left it on the table in my room and did not pick it up again for several months. One afternoon after a very tiring football practice I was laying on my bed and noticed the Book of Mormon where I had placed it months before. Out of curiousity I picked it up and began to read it. At first I was uncomfortable with the feelings that I was experiencing as I read. I felt very strong impressions that what I was reading was true. That Nephi and his family were real. This bothered me because I knew what this meant. Could it be true I asked myself. The impressions and feelings of that moment stayed with me throughout my senior year of high school. After High School I enlisted in the Marine Corps. The night before I was to leave for Basic Training I received a copy of the Service Members Book of Mormon as a gift. Each night during my basic training I took the time to read that copy of the Book of Mormon. I did this even though my days were exhausting and it was hard to stay awake. There was always a very special feeling that came into my heart and enlightenment that came into my mind as I read the pages of the book. I came to know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet and that the Book of Mormon was revealed scripture. After completing Basic Training during October of 1969 I was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in a swimming pool at Camp Pendleton California. The testimony that I received has stayed with me and given me strength and courage throughout my life.

How I live my faith

One of the many wonderful truths restored by the Prophet Joseph Smith was the Plan of Salvation. When I joined the Church I learned that all men and women are children of our Heavenly Father. He provided a Savior for us because he loves each one of us. I came to understand that each and every person I meet is a child of our Heavenly Father. He loves each of us and wants to help us during our time on Earth. It has been my desire to serve our Heavenly Father by serving his children. I have tried to be actively involved in serving others. After being discharged from The Marine Corps I served as a missionary for the Church in London England. During my years as a member of the Church I have been able to serve in many ways. I have served as an assistant scout master in a Church sponsored troop . I have also been a teacher in the Church program for the young children of the Church. I have also taught lessons to the adult members of the Church. I have also helped account for and administer the financial resources of The Church. My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity of serving as workers in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church. Most recently I have been able to help organize classes and service opportunties for a portion of the men in my local congregation. I have also been able to work with other leaders of my congregation as we have sought to serve and support the members of the Church and members of our community.
