Hi I'm Gilbert

I'm a brother. I love my guitars. I'm a Californian. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated college with a degree in Political Science and I hope to make a career out of service to as many as I can. I love music, and guitar-playing is a passion of mine. Playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. I have a sister and two brothers and they are my best friends. I love my mom and dad too. Family is the most important thing to me and there is nothing better than sharing laughs with them and creating memories.

Why I am a Mormon

About five years ago, I was looking for a closer connection to God. I wanted to feel Him closer in my life and know that He is there. I wasn't looking for a particular church, but I did seek to learn more about the Bible and to try to live a more Christian life. A friend of mine, who was a member of this church, invited me to come to church with her and her friends. I loved it. Walking into the chapel, I immediately felt something I had never felt before in my entire life. I learned more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and prayed to know if it was true, and if I should join and be baptized. My answer came and the decision was easy. I have never been so blessed, so happy, so full of love from God, than from knowing and being a part of this church. I love it more than anything. I love it because it is Christ's, and I love Him. I feel God's love and influence in my life more fully and I have the relationship with Him that I desire. I know He is there. I now know that. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior. I feel His guidance, His influence, His love, and His forgiveness. One of the greatest things about my conversion is that I now know there are living prophets on the earth. They are God's chosen representatives to lead us to Christ and to help us be better people. I hear their teachings and I apply them to my life. what results is happiness, a sense of obedience to God and His commandments, and a peace of mind and heart in knowing I am doing what God wants me to do. To me, that is the most precious thing I possess. A testimony, a knowledge, that God lives and that He truly loves me. That Jesus Christ really did die for me and forgives my sins. That I can pray to my Heavenly Father and know that He is listening and ready to help me, guide me, and love me. I know these things are true because I have prayed directly to God about their truthfulness and I have a sure witness of it. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday. There I learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how I can apply His teachings to live a more blessed and happy life. Once a month in church we share our testimonies of the Gospel and how it has blessed us. Those are very strengthening times for me because I grow in faith - I see how keeping the commandments can bring peace and happiness to me in hearing my friends share about their experiences and blessings. I dedicate Sundays to being with family and my friends at home or at their home. We avoid going out and having fun so we can keep the spirit of the Sabbath day with us. I plan activities for my congregation and that is so much fun for me. I get to brainstorm ideas with fellow church members for things like talent shows, group outings, and sports games. I really enjoy this because we get to bond and grow in friendship during the week. That carries over to what we receive on Sunday's and our connections come together abundantly. Once a month I visit, with a companion, members of our congregation to share a spiritual message of encouragement and inspiration based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the scriptures. This is great because I get to attend people, see their needs, and really do selfless service. That gives me joy and happiness, to know that they are taken care of and that I can help the Lord bless them.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I really do believe and know there are prophets on the earth today. I learned about who they were in the Bible and about their relationship with God and their purpose for us. I learned that there is a living prophet that leads the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I prayed to God to know for myself. He answered, and I know that there is a modern-day prophet that leads this church, under direction of Christ, and I can follow their counsel to live a blessed and happy life. Show more Show less
