Hi I'm Stanley Martin

24 years old. Voice Major at the University of South Carolina Upstate. Aspiring author. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in the upstate of South Carolina. My family are all members of the LDS Church, which means I was raised Mormon. I have a deep love for music and intend to persue a degree in music performance. I'm also a writer and hope to publish the three book series I've been working on for the past number of years. I served a two-year mission for the Church in Salt Lake City (you'd be surprised how many people live in Utah and don't know anything about Mormons). I also have a deep love for my Savior, Jesus Christ. Knowing what He has done for me helps me throughout my life as I face temptations and every-day stresses.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a deep love for my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because I was born into it. I stayed a Mormon because I grew to understand who Christ is and what He did for me personally. I also love the Scriptures. We study from the Holy Bible just like any other Christian faith. We are also blessed to have receive additional scripture through modern-day revelation through God's modern-day Prophets. The Book of Mormon is a wonderful and true book of scripture that supports the Bible and testifies of Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind. I encourage everyone to take the chance to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and know for themselves that the book is indeed the word of God.

How I live my faith

I love working with the Youth of the Church. I currently have the opportunity to serve in the Church's Young Men's program as an advisor and an assistant Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America. I try to take every opportunity to share my testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ and what He has done for all of us.

What is the priesthood?

Stanley Martin
Knowing that the Priesthood exists is a great blessing in my life. My father holds the Priesthood and I was blessed to receive it from him. It is a tremendous responsibility to be a Priesthood holder, but also a tremendous privilege. The Priesthood is the power of God trusted to His sons here on the Earth. It is the same power and authority Jesus Christ Himself used to perform so many miracles. It is the same power that was held by every Prophet and Apostle throughout the Old and New Testaments and must be received by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority. In other words, a man can only receive the Priesthood from another worthy Priesthood holder. The Priesthood can only be used according to righteous desires and choices. One cannot simply use the Priesthood. We must live worthily to be able to use God's power. We don't have to be perfect. We simply must be worthy. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Stanley Martin
A ward is less of a geographical boundary or a weekly gathering of Latter-day Saints. At its heart a ward or branch is a family that supports one another. It still amazes me how well we know one another in a ward or branch. Some might consider it gossip to discuss the needs of a person or a family in a public church setting, but more often than not this gives members the chance to run to the aid of those ward/branch members most in need. The same idea can be applied to stakes. Growing up in the Cowpens/Gaffney area of South Carolina (the Greenville, South Carolina East Stake) I've discovered just how well members know each other and even each other's children. We can always be confident that we have friends and church members to teach us and help us grow in our faith in Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
