Hi I'm Mike H.

Im a baseball fanatic, an avid backpacker, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

Im a college student in my 3rd year studying advertising. I hope to end up doing agency work in either NYC or LA. I have a passion for any and all kinds of sports; whether playing or watching i love it all. But especially I could watch college football all day long. I love the outdoors, but especially backpacking and skiing. I would spend all day at the ski resort if i could get away with it.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that God still loves all his children. He would never abandon us, and has shown his love to us in the present day through a prophet that speaks for him. HIs authority given to man allows us to have his true church leading and guiding our lives. Knowing what God wants me to do in this confusing world is so important to me. I want to show God that i want to follow his commandments, and through modern revelation i can know what he expects of me. I know that the teachings of this church are because i know the Book of Mormon is true. I have personally prayed and asked God if the things which i read and thought about are true. Through his messenger the Holy Ghost i knew without a doubt that the book was of God. And if the Book of Mormon was true, than Joseph Smith was a true prophet led and inspired by God. There has since been an unbroken chain of authority passed down from Joseph smith all the way to our current prophet Thomas S. Monson. Authority is something spoken of so often in the Bible i believe it is imperative that the Lord's true church contain that authority.

How I live my faith

Knowing that I am a child of God helps me try and improve every day. Reading the scriptures and relating them to my life gives me the guidance to keep my life in line with what the Lord wants of me. Understanding that keeping God's commandments empowers me to achieve greater things and develop a better relationship with my father in heaven. Knowing that following commandments doesn't bind me, but quite the opposite- it makes me free from the burden of sin. The basics of how i live my faith is my attempt to become more like Christ every day, even in the smallest details.

What is the First Vision?

Joseph Smith at the young age of 14 had pressing question, which of all the different churches is God's true church? Joseph sought after the answer in the Bible and asked different ministers for their opinion but wasn't satisfied. He found a passage in the bible: James 1:5 "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him." he took this scripture to heart and decided to pray and ask God for himself. Joseph went out to a grove of tree where he could be alone and knelt dow to pray. He immediately felt as if he was seized upon by some dark power that tried to overcome him. (This was the devil attempting to prohibit Joseph from having the following experience)He describes such deep dispair that he was nearly completely overcome by it when he describes "I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head above the brightness of the sun; which descended gradually until it fell upon me. When the light reseted upon me, i saw two personages, one spake unto me and siad, pointing to the other-this is my beloved son hear him." Joseph saw God the father and his son Jesus Christ in that grove of trees. Christ told Joseph that none of the churches organized on the church at that time had the fullness of the truth, he said: "they draw near unto me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." he told Joseph to join none of the current churches, but he would use Joseph as an instrument in his hands to bring forth God's true church in its fullness on the earth once more. Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Mike H.
The Book of Mormon was mainly written by ancient prophets on the North American continent. (some originated in the holy land). These prophets wrote of their peoples dealings with God, as well as their prophecies of the coming of the Savior Jesus Christ. Mormon was one of these prophets who compiled the book, that is how the Book of Mormon got its name. Joseph Smith was led to the book by an angel of the Lord in the early 1800's and translated it by the gift and power of God. It is Another testament of Jesus Christ to be used as companion to the Bible. Show more Show less
