Hi I'm Chanell

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a fourth year psychology student! I love sunshine and the beach even though I never get a tan I enjoy exploring the city and trying new foods - Indian, Vietnamese, Greek, whatever! I have an amazing husband that joins me on all my adventures. I have horrible hand-eye coordination so I instead of sports I do cheesy workout videos at home. Outside of school I have managed to merge my passion with a Student job on campus. I work as a public health outreach assistant for the campus health center. I have an ardor for public mental health and I hope to go to grad school for social work and public health. I feel so blessed to have so many opportunities to do good and to serve The Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was baptized when I was eight and went to church with my Dad during the summer, most of the year I lived with my Mom and had no exposure to leading a Christ centered life. When I turned 16 I moved in with my Dad since my Mom moved across the country. I was suddenly in the middle of a home that was different then what I was use to. There was family prayer and scripture reading along with family dinner every day and church on Sunday. I went along with what my family was doing, but I wanted to know why they did all these things. I asked my Step-mom why we had family prayers when my siblings needed to be in bed and why we went to church on sunday instead of going out and running errands. She said she did all of this because she loved the Lord and this is how she is able to show it. I wanted to know if this was true for myself. I started to read the Book of Mormon and prayed for God to let me know if it was true. After I finished reading the Book of Mormon I knew that the book was from God and that he had set up the church and called Joseph Smith to be a prophet. I am a Mormon because I love the Lord and I want to show Him that I will follow His example.

How I live my faith

I am in a student ward so one of the other students and me organize weekly lessons/activities every monday night for all of the undergraduates. We ask students to come up with a short lesson about a gospel principal and then play a game after. I also attend religion classes that are like Bible Studies were we meet as a group to learn about the scriptures.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

The great thing about Christ's Church is that members find out that it is true for themselves. No amount of debate or sophistry will ever convert someone. We believe that when you ask God if this is His church He will answer you personally. We must go to God and ask Him to led us and show us the way. This is how every member gains their knowledge that this is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
