Hi I'm Shawn

I am a Chaplain Candidate working to become a Chaplain within the US Army. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of three children and have been married to my wonderful wife for almost 11 years. I am currently working on a Masters of Divinity in Marriage and Family Therapy. I served in the Army as an active duty enlisted member for five years. I enjoy spending my free time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but I have chosen to continue to be faithful because of the prospect of being with my family forever. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for my sins and is the head of the church. I have received a witness from the Spirit of God of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that he is in fact the head of the church and has called prophets and apostles in our day to lead and guide us in a world in which there is so much confusion. I know that the organization of the church was created and is governed by the Savior himself. I am grateful for a Heavenly Father who hears and answer my prayers. It is amazing to me how wonderful and perfect the plan of salvation is.

How I live my faith

I am a teacher of young single adults who are in college or who are college age. We have a lesson and a great discusion every Wednesday about the doctrines of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am also a teacher of the boys ages 10-12. I teach this class on Sundays at church during the Sunday School hour. I have come to love teaching and enjoy teaching and having great gospel discusion in both of my classes. I am also working to become an LDS Chaplain within the United States Army in which I look forward to serving those who serve and bring soldiers to God and God to Soldiers.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We simply view him as in important role in the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was a prophet, much like Moses and Joshua, who both did amazing thing for the House of Israel. It was through Joseph Smith that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored, much like it was through Moses that the children of Israel left Egypt or Joshua conquered the Canaanites. In both instances, God did the work, but Moses and Joseph was the mouth piece. In the same way, God provided the way for the restoration of the Gospel, Joseph Smith was simply God's mouth piece. What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

For me, the purpose of life is to strengthen my family in the gospel and follow in the footsteps of the Lord. We all came here to earth to get a physical body and learn how to use it, but we also came here to learn. We make choices, live with the results and learn from our choices. Instead of dwelling on the mistakes of the past, we focus on the possibilites of the future. Right now, raising my children in the gospel and loving my wife is the most important thing I can do. I learn from them and they learn from me. Together, we grow as a family as we go through our struggles in life together. We do this so that we can be together as a family through out this life and the next. Show more Show less
