Hi I'm Joey

I am an Ultimate frisbee enthusiast, Snowboarding and wake boarding amatuar, I love acting like a little kid, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Oregon, and am now studying Business Management and plan to work in Health Care. I have really developed a passion for wake boarding and snowboarding. When I was a senior in High school, I could not throw a Frisbee straight to save my life, now I can throw it far and pretty darn straight. I spent years trying to find a sport that I loved in High School, but never found it until I went to college, Ultimate frisbee is my sport! My parents got divorced when I was 4, and my mom remarried when I was 7. Having to go in between homes every week led to a lot of confusion, and a lot of sorrow. My dad had joined the church, but made decisions that led him to leave my mom, and the church. He then started attending different baptist churches. Once, I attended one, and the teacher in sunday school started talking bad about mormons and Joseph Smith. It really upset me enough to ask him what he knew about Joseph Smith. As I continue to grow, I just would go through the motions of going to church. It wasn't until I attended a LDS youth camp, that I truly gained a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and that He was called by God. I have come to know that happiness can truly come through the scriptures, both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Your family is where love can and should be felt. Children who have been involved in a divorce, can find happiness, and can grow to have a strong family, if they are willing to work for it.

Why I am a Mormon

The world is constantly changing, and it will affect our jobs, our children, and eventually our lives and faith in God. Being Mormon brings a lighter side to all of the dark that the world is feeding us. We talk about the signs of Christ second coming, but we look at it different. I don't look at it like I will be gone and every one will have to suffer the destruction. I will have my own personal problems, but one that I've been taught and learned on my own is that any terrible situation will develop a deeper understanding of the blessings in this life that you have already received and the blessings that Heavenly Father wants you to receive in the near future. To know that amidst all this darkness, there is hope, there light, there is a better way. No other religion can provide promises of eternal blessings, they tend just provide you with a security for this life, something that makes you feel more comfortable. People have often told me that a religion is just to help people feel better, for people that look for something to make the right decisions. They will often include that they know a lot more and don't need the direction. Religion is not something to make any of us do anything, it is to make us understand that we have choices and that this life is not meant to be dragged into believing something, It is for our own personal pursuits following council that is given to us, so make the right choice, follow Christ, and search out the blessings.

How I live my faith

I am currently living my faith by spending the two years from August 2010 to August 2012 by serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Mesa Arizona Area, by doing my hardest to invite all men to come unto Christ. We talk of Christ, We teach of Christ, We prophesy of Christ. Being able to help people come to know of the blessings that come from this church has been a great building experience for me. People don't usually know that the reason why we are so happy is because we have a hope, we desire to do things for others. I think being a member of this church requires more than just helping yourself, it's also helping others. Once you develop a true love of Christ, it becomes second nature to help those around you.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I have had the experience as a missionary to really become familiar with the scriptures. It's a way huge blessing. I have had the opportunity to read from the Old Testament the past few months and learn alot. I think my favorite book so far in the Old Testament is the Book of Esther. We learn from her story that through much fasting and prayer, we can receive great blessings. I have also enjoyed Daniel, what a powerful testimony of faith and being willing to stand alone in what is virtuous and Righteous. The Bible shares a true testimony of Jesus Christ, but people today have destroyed all confidence in answering any questions in appeal to the Bible. It is sad that because doctrines have been so mistrued that people can receive different answers to different verses in the Bible. The Book of Mormon though is convenient in helping people have a stronger understanding in the Bible. Show more Show less

Where did Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin?

The church began in 1830. But, the Church of Jesus Christ was established during Christ's Ministry here on the Earth. The church was not founded by Joseph Smith, it was restored back on the Earth. It is Christ's Church, not my church, or Joseph Smith's church or Mormon's church. It is the Church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
