Hi I'm Dean

As a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints known as Mormons, I joined the church when I was 16.

About Me

A father of 8, married 27 years, I work as a software QA Engineer. I love music and play the guitar. When I was 10, my grandma taught me how to crochette her baby booties (she invented the pattern), and I have taken the first place ribbon with my work in our state fair competition in years past. I also enjoy gardening and making new friends.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 16 years old, I was struggling with a sense of self-worth and trying to figure out what God wanted me to do with my life. Based on the teachings I heard from relatives (all from other faiths), I thought for sure I was not worthy of going to heaven as I understood the concept. I knew that God was there, but didn't really think he had a plan that would include me. However, my older brother had joined the Mormon church a year or so earlier and it left me wondering what he had found since we had both been brought up with the same basic beliefs. When I investigated the church, I didn't even tell my brother that I was looking into the church he had joined (he was away at the Naval Academy by then). But as I learned about the church and studied the Book of Mormon, I came to know that God's plan did include me and that what my brother had found was right for me too. So I decided to be baptized and set the date. Special events took place that provided additional witnesses of the Spirit that I was on the right path and although I still struggle with general life events, I no longer struggle with my feelings of self-worth or wondering where I fit into God's plan. I am a child of God and I know that He loves me in a very personal way. Without the church I would not just be lost in my faith, but would be drifting in the world and still be wondering if there was a plan that included me. If you take the time to investigate with a sincere heart, I know He will answer your questions too.

How I live my faith

Today I am a father of eight children, and have been married to my sweetheart for over 27 years. Every day we work together, trying to set a good example in our family and at church. My wife and I have the rare opportunity to serve in a stake calling together where we help to administer in activities for the stake, bringing families together and building a sense of family among the community. Additionally, I love music and get to serve as a chorister in our ward, leading the music during our Sunday worship meeting. One of my favorite activities is to study the gospel and participate in discussions about the scriptures. I try to provide insights regarding how to apply the lessons we learn to our own lives. This year we have been focusing on the Old Testament, and I love to get involved as we bring the OT prophets to life. After all, they are our ancestors and their stories will help us to avoid the pitfalls of life if we will just listen to them.
