Hi I'm Philip

I grew up in the south, I love the outdoors, I'm an entrepreneur, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father of two little boys and I enjoy the outdoors whether it be hiking in the back-country, running long distance or just sightseeing. My wife and I do our best to balance our busy lives by spending as much time as we can together with our children and our extended family. I own an Internet business as well, which I started with my older brother when we were both in college. We currently employ about 20 people and I love what I do and the chance it gives me to serve others. I'm a web developer too, and my job is to run the web and IT side of the company. So that also makes me a closet nerd.

Why I am a Mormon

My wife and family and my relationship with Christ have brought the most happiness and meaning to my life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ just makes sense to me, and brings purpose to everything I do. It helps me to see my work as a chance to serve others, helps me become a better husband and father, develops me spiritually as a person, and gives me opportunities to make an impact the lives of others. I'm a Mormon because I've come to know for myself through personal prayer that Christ lives, and that he hears and answers our prayers. When I was younger I took the opportunity to read the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I remember reading it and praying about it and coming away with an overwhelming feeling that it is true. I know through subsequent experiences that Christ indeed lives, that this is His church, that He is my Savior and the Savior of all mankind. I know that through Christ we can be forgiven of our sins and after this life we can return to live with God and with our family for eternity. Eternal families is a doctrine unique to the Mormon faith. Other doctrines that have had a deep impact on me personally have been the Church's clear answers to the questions of life including our purpose on Earth, where we came from, who we are, and what our destiny is after this life.

How I live my faith

Our faith asks us to give service not only to help ourselves grow, but more importantly to help us follow the example of Christ and lift those around us. The church has a lay ministry so we're not paid for our time. Currently I'm serving as a youth leader and scoutmaster. It was difficult at first as I'd never served as a scout leader before. However, after two years now I love it. It has helped me discover strengths in myself I never knew were there, and given me the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of the boys I serve.
