Hi I'm Mike

I am a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of five children and and an editor of a magazine on antiques and collectibles.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the Spirit has borne witness to me of the truthfulness of the Gospel. After being introduced to the Church and taking some of the missionaries discussions, I did not join because I never received a witness of the Spirit. It was while I was in Marine Corps boot camp on Parris Island, S.C., that I did receive that testimony. In 1973 when I joined the Corps, the first few days of training were spent standing at attention in the squad bay. Except for going to the chow hall for meals, to the head (restroom) and for one hour of personal time in the evening, my platoon and I stood at attention all day long. This was to teach us discipline. If you moved or looked around, a drill instructor would get in your face and say one word, “Begin.” That meant to begin exercising, and you exercised until he told you to stop. I was told to “begin” once, and before it was over, I saw my reflection in the puddle of my own sweat on the floor. Standing at attention almost all day long left you little to do besides think, and one of those days, the question popped into my head, “I wonder if it is true (meaning the Gospel of Jesus Christ)? I wonder if it is really true?” When I thought that, I felt my heart swell and burn within my chest. This was the testimony I received. It was a feeling I had never felt before. I knew then, without a shadow of a doubt, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of God upon the earth. I also know now it is true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith each day by obeying the commandments and following the Savior each day. I love to read the scriptures and learn about Him. I am forever grateful for His sacrifice for me in the Garden of Gethsemane. I know my Redeemer lives, and I have dedicated my life to His service.
