Hi I'm Alex

And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of five children. I love playing almost every sport (basketball, volleyball, frisbee, soccer, golf, etc.). I play the piano and the guitar; playing the guitar helps me relax - especially during stressful times at school. I love learning too but sometimes I don't feel I have enough time to learn everything I want to. I'm also a college student. I started out studying mechanical engineering, but I didn't like it much. So while I finished my general-education classes, I tried to figure out a new course of study. After a year-and-a-half, I settled on working towards a degree in international studies with an emphasis in economics and a minor in Portuguese. I decided on Portuguese because I was able to learn much of the language while serving a mission for the Church in Cape Verde (West Africa) a couple of years back.

Why I am a Mormon

As I've done my best to follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I've felt that the lifestyle is correct. In the scriptures, we learn of the fruits of the Holy Ghost (in other words, the ways we can recognize the Holy Ghost) and that the Holy Ghost testifies of truth. I admit that, sometimes, it can be difficult for me to live up to all of the teachings of Christ. Still, it is always worth the effort because the blessings promised by the Lord always come. I know that when I do make mistakes, the Lord is ready and willing to forgive me provide I work through a full repentance. I know that this repentance is made possible by Jesus Christ, the Savior. He suffered, experiencing the feelings and weight of every wrong we may commit, injustice that may occur; everything. Because He's done this, He knows what we are going through and how to best help us. He is eager to help us. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I know that He saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son. I know also that Joseph Smith truly was commanded of the Lord to restore His church to the earth. As part of this restoration, the Book of Mormon was translated by Joseph through the power of God. I know that this book contains those doctrines that had been lost in the time prior to the Restoration. I testify that anyone who has the desire to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon can read the book and pray, asking God if it is true, and He will testify to them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, that it is indeed sacred scripture.

How I live my faith

As a student at school, I've most often been assigned the opportunity to lead a family home evening group. Each Monday, groups of students (organized by local church leaders) meet for an activity and Gospel lesson. It's been a blessing to be able to build these relationships with such good people who share goals and feelings about the Gospel and be able to serve them. We are all able to grow closer to Christ and it's been amazing to see the growth of others in these short periods of time. I love serving in the Church.
