Hi I'm Ed Gardner

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a busy husband and father of two beautiful girls. I'm also a fourth grade math teacher. I'm currently pursuing my master's degree in curriculum and instruction. I really enjoy watching movies and playing video games, when I'm not working or busy with my kids, which means I catch the occasional movie about every six months and my game systems are covered in dust!

Why I am a Mormon

As I was finishing my schooling, I met a young lady named Kate working at the mall. I thought she was cute and eventually we went on a date. Most of the date, she talked about things that she would be doing in the days to come with her church. I'd say, "What are you doing Saturday?" She'd reply, "Going to the temple with people from my church." "Ok, Sunday then." "I've got church." "Monday?" "I'm the Family Home Evening Activities Coordinator at church." "TUESDAY?!?" "I've got Institute(which is basically a Bible study)...you could come with me if you want." So, I went to institute with her on that next Tuesday. I listened to an excellent lesson on pride, and afterwards the Mormon missionaries came to talk with me. They asked me if I'd be interested in meeting with them to learn more about the church. I agreed and started having regular discussions with them. I remember thinking that everything they were saying made sense to me. They had answers to all of my questions. Kate gave me a Book of Mormon to read. I read it even though I wasn't sure about whether or not I believed that it was scripture. I think that in the beginning, I was looking for things to disprove its legitimacy based on my limited understanding of the Bible. However, anytime I thought I had some evidence, the missionaries were able to clear up my misunderstanding immediately in a way that made me think, "Well, of course!" Kate challenged me to read the Book of Mormon and just pay attention to how I felt while I read it. So, I did. As I read, I felt a wonderful warmth come over me which I now believe to be the Holy Spirit testifying to me of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. From that point on, I just wanted to know when I could be baptized. Now, I've been a member for about 6 years. I've married Kate and had two gorgeous daughters. I couldn't be happier.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by remembering something that is said at church every Sunday. We, as members of the church, take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. That means, I do my best in every situation to act as Christ himself would act if he was here. I try to help others at my place of work. I teach Sunday School to the youth at the church. I read my scriptures (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon) with my family on a regular basis. I pray with my children and teach them to pray not through memorization of prayers, but by having a conversation with their Heavenly Father thanking Him for their blessings and asking Him for help when they need it. I live my faith by loving my family and doing my best to provide for them.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Ed Gardner
Wards, branches, and stakes are how our church is organized. It is similar to parishes and diocese in the Catholic Faith. Wards are like parishes or a single "church". Branches are smaller than wards in areas where there are not very many members. Stakes are similar to diocese in that several wards make up a stake. Show more Show less
