Hi I'm Jared Barneck

I'm a Mormon. I am a Software Developer, highly educated. I believe in God. I have a passion for technology.

About Me

I am a husband and father. I love my wife and my children. I am so a computer geek. I am a developer for a company called Caradigm. I code mostly in C# (WPF an MVVM). Before being a developer I was a subject matter expert for a technology and IT product called LANDesk Management Suite. As a hobby, I am a FreeBSD user.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church. When I was sixteen, my junior year, I decided to read the Book of Mormon by myself. When I finished reading the Book of Mormon, I prayed and asked God if it was true. I was alone in my room, in complete quiet and I listened. I heard a voice, as if in my own head that said: "You already know it is true." Now, I hear my own thoughts in my head all the time but this voice was different. It is so distinct that I have only heard this exact voice in my head three times. The first time I heard this voice I was twelve or thirteen. I was with my father, who was a bishop at the time, and we were serving an very old woman one Sunday. She was in much pain and had been for quite some time. As my father gave her a blessing, I remember aching for the old woman and wishing she could pass on to heaven. I remember crying out to heaven in my mind asking God to give her peace. I heard this voice very clearly in my mind giving me peace: "I am taking her tonight." While I was aware this was a different voice than the one I think with in my head, I honestly let the idea go. I would have thought nothing of the voice had she lived on for a long time. However, that night, she did leave this world in peace. When I prayed about the Book of Mormon at age 16, I recognized the same voice. I heard to voice a third time when I was twenty. I was serving two years as a missionary, preaching the gospel in the Dominican Republic. I had come to realize that I spent too much time dwelling on my faults and past sins. I prayed for a week that I could be forgiven when I next partook of the Sacrament. I prayed all week and fasted on Saturday and Sunday. However, Sunday morning, I was busy helping with church and working with those who we were preaching to. My mind was elsewhere all day. Then I partook of the sacrament and even thus distracted the voice was clear: "You are forgiven."

How I live my faith

I try to live right. I help out my church serving as best I can. I am current serving a Directory of our Stake Sports program. Our churches have Gyms and we organize sports activities for both youth and adults.
