Hi I'm Katie

I mostly grew up on the east coast. I'm going to college to become an elementary school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love playing the piano! Actually, I just love music in general singing is fun too. And dancing. I'm currently studying to become a bilingual elementary school teacher. I just got back from serving a full-time mission for the church & it was one of the singular best experiences of my life! It is actually what inspired me further, to become an elementary teacher-I love teaching & serving! I also really cherish friendship & love to meet new people & go new places.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born "under the covenant," which means my parents were married & sealed in the temple of the Lord, so I grew up with an LDS background. But I made the decision on my own to get baptized when I turned 8 years old, & have since witnessed & felt the blessings of that decision. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ & know it to be true! I know that Heavenly Father hears & answers our prayers He knows us specifically & can help or bless us according to our individual needs. I am thankful for His Son Jesus Christ, who came into the world to offer up His life for us, so that we might be able to return to live with Him, as well as our loving Heavenly Father. I also know & feel that we need a prophet today, just as prophets were needed in ancient times, and I know that President Thomas S. Monson has been called as the Lord's spokesman. I can say I know this, because I feel the power of the Spirit work through him each time he speaks to the world & to the church. I know that temples represent the beautiful truth that we can be together forever as families & that we can do those things necessary in this life, to prepare to return to God's presence. The temple, a house of the Lord, is a place where one can experience peace & find time for reflection, that is almost impossible to find in our hectic and fast-paced society today.

How I live my faith

Well, I am currently teaching missionaries at the MTC in Provo, Utah. I also attend Church each week, & am currently an instructor for the group of sisters that meet together for Relief Society. I also think it is very important to practice what I preach I try to be an example to others & obey the commandments God has given us. I know that we are truly happy when we do that which He has asked us to do. I especially have to be careful about talking about all the things I believe especially in the public school system but being "an example of the believers" as stated in 1 Timothy, is something I value & emulate to the best of my abilitiy.

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a member of Jesus Christs' restored church is such a great blessing in my life. Growing up on the east coast, I was always a minority as far as religion goes, but I feel like that circumstance gave me the ability to strengthen my testimony, & share my beliefs with my peers on many occasions. Granted, there were some times I would be mocked, & that there were many who misunderstood me because of my religion, but God has blessed me with the courage & ability to share what I believe in all times & places.  Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Definitely! Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that the Book of Mormon works as a companion to the Bible, and we believe both to be the word of God. We regard the Bible as Holy Scripture, & I especially love the New Testament, because it depicts the Savior's ministry, & all the many wonderful things He accomplished in that time. I use the Bible as a reference in my talks at Church, as well as when I'm teaching the missionaries at the MTC, because I feel it testifies of Jesus Christ & God, just as the Book of Mormon does. It's really neat to see how the two fit together, in that they testify of & support one another. Ezekial 3715-16  Show more Show less
