Hi I'm Angela

I grew up in California. I stay home with my three children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with three children. I participate in a community women's choir and I love music. I also do triathlons and I love to stay active. I love to cook and bake and am always hunting for new healthy recipes.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon, but I still had to find out for myself why I was doing the things my parents told me to. I think everyone has to come to that point where they stretch and grow and find their own reason for believing. I remember when I was a teenager I felt I really had to put the words I'd been taught my whole life to the test. I had sung a children's song about being a child of God and I knew the words in my head, but I really had to feel those words in my heart. I remember finding a place alone in my house, which was difficult in a small house with three younger sisters, and asking Heavenly Father if I really was a child of God and really his daughter. And I remember feeling a sensation that I can't to this day describe in words, but a feeling came into my heart with force that my Heavenly Father loves me and that I really am his child. I've had many other experiences in my life that confirm that he has been part of my life, but I truly believe this was one of the first foundational religious experiences for me. I know that He lives and that he loves me and wants me to be happy and succeed in this life. He also wants me to help others along the way and for all of us to go back to our home. I believe that when we die and we see him again, we will be surprised at how familiar it is to us. I am so grateful for this knowledge, because it guides me as a mother, wife, friend, and in so many other ways. There are so many problems in this world that would disappear if more people believed this about themselves and others. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is what Heavenly Father has prepared for all of us so that we can have the answers we need to bring us safely back home.

How I live my faith

I have worked in so many different areas in the church--with the adult sisters, the youth, and even with the children, and I have enjoyed all of them in different ways. My favorite calling has been teaching music to the children in our ward, because I know they feel the Spirit when they sing about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Right now I am working with other leaders in providing activities for the youth in many congregations, and it is a blessing to see how so many youth make good choices even faced with so much adversity. I also serve on the board of my community choir, which is a non-denominational group of women singers and it has been a blessing to be able to get to know them and share some of my beliefs with them. I have watched my teenage daughter at school let others know around her in a nice way that it is not okay to swear or tell inappropriate stories. She has felt different at times, but she knows that sometimes service to others includes standing up for what you believe in. One thing I have learned about service is that if you are willing, the Lord will place people or circumstances in your way that will make it possible. He needs our hands to bless others.

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Angela
Welfare services help people meet their every day needs so they can focus on spiritual things. It's hard to work on strengthening your family if you aren't able to keep food on the table or pay the rent. It also helps people learn to be more self reliant--getting a better education or a better job or learning new skills so they can provide for their family's everyday needs. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Angela
No. Young men are strongly encouraged to serve a mission. Young women are allowed to go if they desire. Show more Show less
