Hi I'm Dan Petersen

I grew up in Virginia. I work in Tijuana, Mexico. I biked across the United States for charity. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family followed my dad's job where ever it went, so when I was 7 years-old my family moved from California to Georgia. Later we moved to southwest Virginia, and that’s mostly where I grew up. In Virginia I spent my weekends hiking the Appalachian Trail and fishing. I'm also a big runner and soccer player, so I've always enjoyed using my free time for long runs or soccer pick-up games with friends. After high school I went on to get my B.S. in Business Management. I took two years off from my schooling to serve an LDS mission in Merida, Mexico. While there I learned a new culture, a new language, I learned to care about others more than myself, and I helped a few people come to know the love that the Savior has for them. I took another half year off from school to organize and carry out a cross-country charity cycling tour for a cause that was important to me. Service is something that makes my life fulfilling, blesses the lives of others, and results in the most incredible memories. I've been lucky to have so many service opportunities. After graduating from college I got a job that takes me across the border to Mexico every day. I love it! I also live with and take care of my 90 year-old grandmother who has dementia. It's not the bachelor life most single college grads hope for, but it certainly is teaching me patience. My future goals include finding a wife, starting a family, going back to school for an MBA, and working in social entrepreneurship.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I truly believe that Jesus Christ leads this church. All the pieces that he organized to create his church in ancient days have been restored to us today, just as the Savior promised they would be. Today we have prophets and apostles who receive revelation from God, we have authority from Jesus Christ to perform his works and ordinances, we have baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, we have revelation, we have temples where families are sealed for eternity, we have everything that Christ's Church had before. That's the long answer for why I'm a Mormon. Here's the short answer. This faith changed my life and I became a better, happier person.

How I live my faith

One thing I love about being a member of the LDS Church is that I'm not just a spectator. One of my favorite quotes says, “Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice... Do more than dream: work.” That is what the Savior encouraged his disciples to do when he was on the earth and it's also what he wants us to do today. Every single person can make a difference, so that's how I try to live my faith. Right now I'm working with the LDS missionaries in my area to help them teach people who are interested in learning about the gospel. I also work with people in my area who have fallen away from the Church and need friends to bring them back.
