Hi I'm David

I'm a Mormon and love this church

About Me

I work in occupational health in the U.K, and am a father to 3 children and step father to 3 more. Between the children I have 9 grandchildren, with two more 'on the way'. My wife and I have been members of the church since 1997, and have never looked back since we joined. I had been a member of 2 other churches prior to that, but feel that now I am home in this church. My hobbies include computing and singing, and I am in our choir.

Why I am a Mormon

Why did I become a mormon? Let me explain. It all started back in the days when my second wife and I were having problems with our children, bringing two families together to make one. (Second wife? I here you say........ yes, I too have heard the story that we can have more than one wife, but let me tell you that we do not. My first marriage had irrevocably broken down and I was divorced). Back to the story, one of my brother-in-laws was having the missionaries visit him and he asked us if we too wanted them to visit. I was not interested but my wife was. Another of my wife's brothers was already a member of the church, so she was not unfamiliar with the concept. An appointment was made for the missionaries to visit my house. I was asked to be present, even if I was not interested, just to support my wife. I did stay for the visit. During the visit, the missionaries discussed some of the aspects of the church, such as who Joseph Smith was and what the mormons believe, and I knew before the end of the visit that I was going to join the church. Everything they asked me to pray about to see if what they were talling me was true, I already felt in my heart was true. I almost didn't have to pray about it. I had received a witness deep in my soul that their words were true and I felt very good about it. None of what they said altered the problems we were having with the children, but being brought back to the knowledge of having a Heavenly Father who loved me enough to have his Son sacrificed on a crual cross made all the problems easier to deal with. Sometimes, just praying about a particular problem made all the difference. You have probably hear the saying 'a problem shared is a problem halved'? Its true. Sometimes I have a feeling inside which directed me to where I could find the help I needed. There have been many times in my life where other problems have been helped by being a member of this church, too many to be listed here.

How I live my faith

I have had several 'callings' in my branch of the church. These calling are what you might call responsibilities for certain activities. The one I have been doing the longest is that of finance clerk. It is my joint responsibilty to ensure that all donations to the church, made through my branch (known as a ward), are recorded acurately. In this way, money that is donated for example, to humanitarian aid, is recorded as being available for that purpose. My current calling that that of executive secretary, which basically means that I organise our bishop so that he is able to perform his calling more easily. None of the callings in our ward are paid for - we don't receive any payment for our services, they are entirely voluntary

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

David
There are many, many good people in the world, yet none are perfect. It may be just a cross word that is said, but we still need someone to plead our cause with our Heavely Father and this person is Jesus Christ his Son. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

David
The Law of Chastity is basically a set of rules that follow to keep us sexually clean. By that, I mean that we are not to have sexual relations outside of marriage. We do not beleive in being married to more that one person at a time. There is no problem in seeing a pretty lady or handsome man and appreciating that beauty, but that is as far as it goes, unless and until we get married to that person. Show more Show less
