Hi I'm Alfonso

I am a Filipino-American. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I have been married since 2000 and we have 1 daughter. I have been a member of the Church since 2006.

Why I am a Mormon

It all just made sense to me when the missionaries taught me the lessons. It was clear and simple when they told me what happened to the church after the Apostles died, and so there was a need for a Restoration of the Church and of the gospel truths that were lost. The LDS Church is organized the same way as when Jesus Christ first organized it- with prophets and apostles; and is directed by God himself through revelation to his living prophets and apostles. God has restored his church in a fruitful nation (Matthew 21:43) through the prophet Joseph Smith. I believe that Moroni is the angel prophesied by the apostle John (Revelation 14:6) to deliver the Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living the principles and standards that we believe in. I show my faith by doing what God asks of each of us, no matter how difficult it may seem, and he will prepare a way that we may accomplish the things that he asks of us. Faith in God is not just saying that you believe, but putting into practice what you believe, and there is no picking and choosing.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

I was asked the question, "If love is good then why is it wrong to love another of the same sex?" Why is it wrong to love someone of the same sex intimately? The answer is: It is not meant for it to be that way. Love and marriage is to be only between a man and a woman. God's first commandment to mankind is (Genesis 1:28) "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it." Because of this commandment to procreate the Lord has said (Leviticus 18:22) "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." As descendants of Adam and Eve, we inherit a fallen condition (original sin). All of us are sinners!!! That being said, we are not perfect! God has created all of us differently, each of us with our own challenges that we must overcome. The challenge is to not sin! We each have our own desires, whether they be good or bad. Sexual sins have become so common and accepted in the world today. The powers of procreation are to only be used by a man and a woman who are lawfully married. God has not changed that! It is the world that is trying to change God to meet their desires. Same-gender attraction is not a sin, but acting on those feelings is. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Study the organization of the church, and the doctrine that is taught. Take the time to find out WHY we believe it to be true. The most important thing that you can do is pray to God the Father, in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, for understanding and if what is taught is true he will confirm it to you through the Holy Ghost. Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Apostles are the same as prophets. They are special witnesses of Jesus Christ. The true Church of Jesus Christ exists only when there are living prophets and apostles upon the earth. The Church of Jesus Christ is (Ephesians 2:20) "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone." They are the governing body of the Church. They receive revelation from God to direct the church. After the death of the original apostles, God removed his church from the earth to be restored at a later time in a fruitful nation (Matthew 21:43). With the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ in these latter-days, God also chose 12 apostles to help lead and direct the church. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Why not? Why would God stop directing his people through a living prophet when he did it before? He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever. So it would only make sense for him to give us a prophet today as well. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

God chooses the prophet. The prophet is the senior apostle. So when the prophet dies the successor is the apostle who has seniority from when they were ordained an apostle. The apostles do not come together to elect a prophet. Show more Show less

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints no longer practice polygamy (plural Marriage). That practice was ended in 1890. If any member of the church is found practicing polygamy they will be excommunicated. There are Mormon sects that do practice polygamy, but are not affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
