Hi I'm Josh

I love the outdoors, climbing, hiking, kayaking, eating, jumping, being with family, finding money on the road... I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to do things outdoors. My favorite thing is to go for a walk after it rains, and look for coins that have been uncovered by the rushing waters. I believe that life was not designed to be boring, and sad. Accordingly, I love to crack jokes, they usually are not very funny, but that doesn't really matter to me. The happiest part of life, is when I am with my family. The family is the central unit of society, and it helps me to learn, so that I can be a better Christian. We love to go on hikes, bike rides, and find new ways to have fun.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, I saw a lot of members of the church give freely to others. They always looked happy to be doing it, and they usually helped even though they had not been asked to do so. I often wondered what made them so happy to serve, and why they cared so much. I read the Bible, and the Book of Mormon, and I realized that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is so much more than just a book, or a Sunday service. The Book of Mormon clearly teaches how to follow the Savior. So, I put it to the test, and I decided to live the principles that I learned. I quickly realized the answer to my previous question. Once I received the answer from God, that these things are true, I knew that they would continue to bring me happiness. Following the counsel of a prophet has helped me to come closer to Christ, and to maintain a happy, healthy lifestyle. These are just some of the reasons why I am a member of this church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by volunteering in the community. I enjoy donating blood(which I know sounds crazy), but it is one of the many ways that we can influence the lives of others, even though we may never meet them. I also enjoy helping at food banks, and looking for every chance that comes my way to serve. Jesus was a wonderful example of serving others. He did it because he loves everybody, regardless of their title or position. I find that I am happier when I serve others, than I could ever be while serving only myself.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Josh
The word of Wisdom tells us what we should and should not eat and/or drink. It is the word of God, and was brought forth to help us live longer, healthier, and happier lives. In the word of Wisdom, we are instructed to avoid: Smoking, drinking coffee, tea, or alcohol, and to avoid things that harm our bodies, such as illegal drugs. By following this commandment, we show God that we respect our bodies, and we also avoid feeling like we are not in control of our own bodies. I follow the word of Wisdom because it makes me feel happier, and it helps me to make better decisions, in my daily life. I enjoy physical activities, and I know that I would have trouble doing the things I love if I didn’t follow the word of Wisdom. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Josh
When you decide to go to a church for worship, you are assigned a specific building, usually according to where you live. For example, if there were three church buildings in one large town, the church would assign certain people to the building closest to them. A congregation is called a ward, or a branch, depending on how many people are attending(a ward if there are many people, and a branch if there are not very many). A stake is a group of wards or branches. For example, if there are three wards in one city, they might all be part of one stake. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Josh
The Mormon temple is a sacred place, and that is why only certain people are allowed in. We believe that a person must be living worthy to enter the temple, and once they are found worthy, they are allowed to go in. There is nothing "secret" going on inside the temple, there are just sacred things that we do. In fact, when a temple opens, the public is encouraged to take a tour of the inside of the Temple, this includes people who are not Mormons.Once the Temple is dedicated, you need to be a worthy member to enter. Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Josh
Yes, Mormons do regard the Bible as the word of God. We choose to read the King James Version of the Bible. I love reading the stories of Jesus, and I feel like I learn more about his teachings each time I read from the Holy scriptures. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Josh
No, we do not worship Joseph Smith. We Believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet, directed by the Lord. Joseph helped us to get what we call the Book of Mormon. We are very grateful for what Joseph did for the world, and we recognize him as one of the Lords servants. He helped us understand what the Lord wants for us. Show more Show less
