Hi I'm Michael

I'm a Mormon and enjoy cooking from time to time.

About Me

I'm a dad who like playing with computers. I try to bike from time to time but that has been rather hit and miss lately...

Why I am a Mormon

I was "born into the Church," as we say, but later I had to pray to find out if Joseph Smith was a really prophet and whether the Book of Mormon was true. Long story short, I found out through prayers that were answered by God.

How I live my faith

I have worked a lot with the youth and I try to help out with youth events whenever I can.

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Go to a meetinghouse or call one. Or ask a member of the Church, if you know one. Or call the full-time missionaries and ask them! (Hint: it's really hard to become one over the Internet) Show more Show less

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

That depends on how you look at it. Since we believe the Church to have been restored from the Church that Christ began in New Testament Times you could simply say Jesus Christ. Since we believe that same Church has existed since the beginning of this earth (with the exception a few periods of "apostasy" when there was no Church on the earth), you could say Adam founded it under the direction of God. If you're talking about the Church for this particular time (the "Latter-days") then Joseph Smith organized it under the direction of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

It is a sin except in cases of rape, incest, or if the life of the mother is in peril. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

It is rather similar to the Book of Mormon: it was written by prophets who spoke to God to give us instructions on how we should act and what we needed to do to be close to him. The Book of Mormon even references the Bible and it even has as one of its purposes to prove to the world that it (the Bible) is true. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No. Mormons' feelings towards Joseph Smith might be thought of other Christians' feelings towards Moses or Paul. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

It's true. :) Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

The Church's name states it. The Book of Mormon witnesses of the divinity of the Savior. Members of the Church use Christ as the yardstick as they try to become better people. Doctrinal minutia aside, _yes_, we are Christians. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

It is a witness, received from God through the Holy Spirit, about the truthfulness of something. Generally about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, this mission of Joseph Smith, and/or the divinity of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

No. That would be rather un-Christian. The Church and individuals within it find ways to help all kinds of people in all kinds of ways. I have been involved in several trips to hurricane-damaged areas to offer assistance to those affected, and most of those helped were not Mormon. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that it is impossible for man to be saved from sin and death without the intervention of Jesus Christ on our behalf. That said, it is important to understand that the Savior asks certain things of us. These things are infinitesimal in comparison to what he has done, but he does ask that we repent of our sins, be baptized, and try as hard as we can to be good people. Show more Show less
