Hi I'm Rob

I'm passionate about music. I'm a conductor, a software engineer, a father of 5 fun boys and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Between my job at Intel writing software, conducting the Westside Community & Youth Orchestra, serving as Board Chair for the Portland Mormon Choir & Orchestra, learning to play the oboe, being a dad of 5 boys and serving in my church calling, I'm ALWAYS busy with something. Sometimes I wonder why I do it all, but in the busy times I have to remind myself how much I love what I do. Whether it's creating elegant software at work, music at home or rehearsal or building a happy, albeit noisy, home, I find joy knowing that my growth and development will serve me not just here in this life, but throughout the eternities. And, when things are going great, it's an amazing reward to see lives changed, including my own.

Why I am a Mormon

If I had to pick my single favorite principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I think I would have to pick the right to personal revelation from God. Over the past few years I feel like God has been tutoring me on an almost daily basis to help me to better feel and recognize His Spirit. In that process I have learned so much about God's amazing love for me and His desire to help me if I'm only willing to listen. I'm still far from perfect, but I regularly feel God's grace, His guidance to help me improve in an area of weakness and His assurance that I'm on the right path. We live in a difficult world and I can't imagine having to live my life without God's watchful and loving care.

How I live my faith

Ever see the LDS missionaries riding down the street in their white shirts and ties? Well, it's my privilege in my local congregation to work directly with the missionaries to help them to best succeed here. Unlike the missionaries who may only stay in one place for a few months, I've lived here for over 10 years so I can help the missionaries obtain the resources they need to succeed while sharing the gospel. For example, maybe the missionaries find someone who is interested in participating in the scouting program with our local congregation. I know who they should talk to and can help meet those needs. In addition to helping the full-time missionaries, I also do what I can in the community to help people feel of God's love for them. My "ministry" is through music and I started the Portland Mormon Choir & Orchestra in 2005 to bring wholesome and uplifting music to the Portland Oregon area. Each year thousands of people come to our concerts and leave felling better about themselves and better able to face the challenges of life. It's been a wonderful blessing to see the many miracles that we've experienced in forming and running the choir & orchestra over these many years.
