Hi I'm Heather

I'm from Southern California. I love sports, especially soccer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with a university degree and a former teacher. I chose to leave the workforce to teach my own young children and prepare them for life. They are almost all in school now and I am finally having a few minutes to myself in the day. I love sports and being active. I love soccer, hiking, fishing, running, body surfing, and just being outdoors. I love road trips with my family and seeing the beauties of the earth. I think snow is something that you 'visit' and enjoy for a day or two but not something you live in!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church and through my own personal study and experiences learned for myself that Jesus is my Savior and is there for me. My grandmother joined the Church in the 1940's in what is now Zimbabwe. She had such a burning testimony that despite the lack of resources and members, she held church mtgs every week and invited all in the community to attend. She remained faithful through those pioneering years to ensure my mother and her 6 siblings knew the truthfulness of the Gospel. Her example coupled with my parents gave me a desire to learn what she learned and know what she knows. My parents never forced us to go to church, it was always a choice. They taught me my mistakes were mine and that only I could find my own releationship with Jesus Christ. I took the challenge given to me by teachers to pray and ask our Father in Heaven what was true and I know that my Savior lives and that he loves me.

How I live my faith

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is my life. Each day our family prays to have service opportunities. We love to help others. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we are given the chance to serve in different positions in the church. Through these positions I have been able to serve members and nonmembers alike. From teaching classes to coordinating service efforts, I have been able to follow the Saviors example of service and loving others.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are as different as any other woman in the world. We have different interests and personalities. Different cultures and traditions. But the one thing we all have in common is our love of our Savior and a desire to share that love with the people we love. The Lord has given us the sacred calling of teaching the people of the world that they are important and loved children of God. We know we are daughters of a loving Heavenly Father and that gives us the strength to reach out to one another, members of our faith and not. Mormon women are also modest in dress and speech. Because we are daughters of God we know that be being modest we show respect to the One who created us. As far as equality goes, we believe that men and women are equal partners in this life. From daily life, to service in the church, men and women are treated as equals. Men may have the priesthood, but it is given to them to serve the women and children. Women have leadership responsibilities and counsel with the men as equals in running the affairs of the church and the family. In my home my husband and I make decisions together and share in the responsibilities of raising our family. Show more Show less
