Hi I'm Donald

I am a cartographer and geospatial analyst. I enjoy painting, modeling, and sculpting. I am a husband and father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a military family, so we moved around many times during my youth and childhood, never staying in one place for more than four years. While never being able to 'put down roots' the experiences have helped me learn to make new friends and adjust to changes as they come. I have always had an interest in the world around me, a fairly good sense of direction and love for maps, which is why I love what I do for a career as a cartographer and geospatial analyst. I am a hobbyist and love to work with my hands whether it be painting, modeling, or sculpting; mostly of the miniature figure variety. I love being able to finish a project and have something tangible to show for it. I also love the adventure and challenge of learning new techniques and skills to improve my talents. I am a husband to the most loving and wonderful woman in the world, my best friend and companion since we first met back in college. I owe so much to her and love her with all my heart! Together we have four sons, and I have learned so much as a father to these wonderful boys! While family life has its ups and downs, I would not trade it for the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the church. When I was only eleven years old, my older brother started attending Seminary (a program for high school age members of the church to spend time each school day studying the gospel and the scriptures) and they were studying the Book of Mormon. I wanted to be like my older brother, so I decided that I would read the Book of Mormon on my own and see for myself what it was about. I finished reading the Book of Mormon for the first time that same year, and it kindled in me a desire to learn more for myself and to apply the principles taught to my own life. As I have reread the Book of Mormon, and also the Holy Bible, I have come to a greater understanding of God's plan for my life and have come to know Him and His Son Jesus Christ more than I could have thought possible. It is also the reason why I chose to leave behind family and friends for two years to travel across the world to Thailand to share the message of the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the wonderful people there. And it is the reason why my wife and I work hard to raise our children in an increasingly troubled world. The restored gospel found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has enriched and blessed my life and the life of my family in so many ways, and the promise of being able to be together as a family in not just this life but throughout eternity brings such sweet hope and joy to help me through the tough challenges of life.

How I live my faith

My wife and I teach a sunday school class for young children each Sunday at church. I enjoy teaching children the gospel, for I learn as much as I teach, and it feels good to see their eyes light up when understanding of gospel truths and principles come to them. I live my faith each day when we, as a family, join together to read and study the scriptures, and kneel together in family prayer. I live my faith when we gather each Monday night to spend time together and learn about gospel principles or study the words of the prophets and apostles (both ancient and modern).
