Hi I'm Derek
I grew up in Florida. I'm a recently baptized mormon.
I love the normal guy things like everyone else... going to the beach and hanging with friends, playing football and lifting weights. I'm going to be going to college soon. I am going to major in physics and go into the Air Force as a pilot.
Why I am a Mormon
Well I started out when I was little going to a baptist church with my family and then after a while my family stopped going to any church. When I was in High school I met my first "mormon" in one of my classes. We started hanging out and eventually I got invited to go to a church activity. My parents warned me not to join the church and I had no plans of joining it (all i knew at the time about the church was that I had always been taught it was the wrong one, even though none of my family knew anything about it). So I went to the activity and it was fun and enjoyed it and so my friend invited me to come to church that Sunday, so I agreed. When I went to church at first it was just to hang out with my friend but when I actually decided to pay attention I noticed a talk given by my friends dad about the atonement (or sacrifice) of Jesus Christ. I noticed that as he talked about it, he truly knew it to be true and understanded it more than any other church I had been to before, and as he talked I felt good inside, its hard to explain any other way (its like trying to explain the taste of salt without saying salty). But I had to know why I felt that way and so I asked someone about it and they told me that I was feeling the Holy Ghost like it says in the Bible you will feel when you hear the truth. So I decided I wanted to find out more about the church and so I met with the missionaries, who helped me find out for myself if the church is true. So I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it and know its true. I got baptized after I graduated High School and am on a mission for the church now. I know the church is true and that God loves us and so will let anyone else including you know that it is true too if you will just ask him in prayer.
How I live my faith
I live my Faith by serving a mission that I am currently on. I'm serving away from home for 2 years teaching other people about the gospel.
