Hi I'm Wayne

I'm a pediatrician, just turning 60 about to run marathon #15 - Oh - did I mention I have the best family on the Planet

About Me

Hi my name is Wayne. You can see me here with two of our seven wonderful children. We are so proud of our children and all they do. We are also the proud grandparents of six grandsons, the oldest having just turned three. Talk about exciting and busy. I mean, it is amazing. I remember being a 15 year old in history class and my history teacher talking about families in a way I didn't agree with, and realizing what I wanted my family to be like, and that the most important thing to me in my life would be my family. And it has been. Besides family, I have been very lucky to be a practicing pediatrician for 30 years. I also enjoy sports, outdoors, my home and yard, and just hanging out. I have been a scoutmaster three times, played a lot of basketball, rugby, and in my old age have settled into running and mountain biking. My parents finally retired in their mid 80's. I don't expect to be quite as wonderful as my parents, but as you can see, I am very blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that there is a God and that He loves every one of His children including me. I love all of our children with all my heart. The most painful experience in life is to see one of your children suffer. While life is good, it is not easy. As we see pain and suffering in the world my wife and I ask ourselves how our Father in Heaven can stand watching His children suffer. However in the midst of these challenges, I know because of our Savior Jesus Christ, the difficulties and trials that we experience will be for our benefit and we can experience joy in this life and in our life after death. I am a Mormon as I know through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I am able reap the full blessings and benefits of His Gospel both in this life, and in life together forever as a family.

How I live my faith

Through my professional career I have always tried to have one area of volunteer service in my community and one in my church, as long as it did not detract from the most important part of my life, my family. I currently am a "District Commissioner" in the Boy Scouts of America, where my job is to see that 168 various scouting units provide effective programs for their youth participants. I have 13 able assistant district commissioners to do the real work. I have also been medical staff president at our hospital, department chairman, and served on many committees and volunteer organizations. In my church I have been lucky enough to work in volunteer service with both the young and the aged as assigned by my church leaders. For 9 years I have had the great privilege of being asked to lead a congregation as "bishop". I currently am the adult leader assisting the fourteen and fifteen year old boys in our congregation in their weekday and weekend religious and recreational activities. My favorite assignment though is to provide monthly visits and support to four families in our congregation who range in age from early fifties to mid nineties with my 14 year old companion.
