Hi I'm Mitch

I recently graduated from dental school, am serving in the United States Army, and I love being a Mormon.

About Me

I am a self proclaimed student of the Austrian school of economics and enjoy learning how changes in fiscal policy have effected U.S History. I did not start with that to turn anyone's brain off but I feel like it is something that makes me unique and in which I truly feel is important to understand. I enjoy nature mainly because of the peace I find in its simple beauty. I have been gardening for 5 years and consider it not only a hobby but a passion. Gardening is one of many ways I connect to nature's God and serves as a reminder that food does not come from the grocery store. Occasionally, I make time for outdoor/nature activities such as hiking, and biking. Routine exercise is important to me as a member of the U.S army. I like to lift weights and am a muscle head wannabee. Unfortunately I am built like a bean pole. My political view point is strictly conservative but I do not align myself with any political party. I feel that it is more important to elect leaders based on principles rather than maintain partisan loyalty. My true loyalty is to defend the principles set for in the United States Constitution. It is my belief that when Americans are indifferent to the principles taught in our constitution, individual rights erode and quickly disappear.

Why I am a Mormon

People wonder why I am a Mormon since they see my faith as very restrictive. No coffee, No alcohol, No Sunday recreational activities, No Fun. It is easy to see my faith through a looking glass of negativity. However, this perspective is distorted and inaccurate. I am not a Mormon because of the things I can't/won't do but because of the things I can do because I choose not to do the others. The gospel as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ enables me to become my best self, the happiest person I can be. This is particularly true when life's experiences would otherwise tear me down and make me feel insignificant. The Church teaches me through simple correct principles how I can overcome any challenge through the power of our Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

My job/calling in the church is that of ward missionary. I help support the missionary efforts of the full time missionaries in any way that I can. The most important way I help the missionaries is to find people for the missionaries to teach. I do this first by setting a good example of one who lives the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is my hope that people will want to know more about the church by seeing how it influences my life for good. Secondly, I invite my family, friends, and acquaintances to learn more about the church by reading the Book of Mormon, coming to church and receiving the missionary lessons. The most important calling I have in the church is being the Father of my family. Aside from providing temporal support I am to lead in the spiritual development of my family. I do this by ensuring our family has daily prayer together as well as scripture study. I am also responsible for making sure every Monday night is family night.
