Hi I'm Brad

I am a husband, father, dentist and at 31 I am still going to school and... I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on the Island of St. Croix in the USVI. It was a great experience. I learned to scuba dive and love the ocean at a young age. I served a mission in the fourth and fifth regions of Chile. One of the many things the Chileans taught me was to speak Spanish which I really enjoy. I am married and have been blessed with two beautiful girls. I do not think anyone has made me laugh more than my 3 year old daughter. The things that 3 year olds think of! I enjoy woodworking; making things with my hands. My father is a carpenter so everything I have learned about using tools and building things has come from him. Most recently I made a bench for our front porch using wooden pallets, some pictures for ideas on how to construct it and my imagination filled in the gaps. It was a lot of fun. I enjoy playing all types of sports. The sport that I have played the most is Volleyball. I really like things that have wheels, especially if there is a motor attached. Riding 4 wheelers is something I really enjoy. Other things that I love to do include mountain biking, wakeboarding, snowboarding, skeet shooting in the desert, hiking and camping. Even though I love all of these things, what brings me the most joy is my little family. They mean everything to me. I am so blessed to have them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church. My parents and siblings are all members, but that is not why I'm a Mormon. Early on in life I was blessed with a desire to learn and study the Gospel. I gained a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon through reading and re-reading its pages on a daily basis. Before I realized it, I had a burning testimony of the fact that reading the Book or Mormon will help our lives in every way and that it is true. Before leaving on my mission I really wanted to know for myself if the prophet Joseph Smith was who he said he was so I fasted and prayed and came to know through the Holy Ghost that he is a true prophet of God. Since then I have come to know for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Church of God on the earth. Being a member has blessed my life in every way. Not a day goes by that I am not grateful to be a member!

How I live my faith

I have mentioned that we (my wife, two daughters and I) have just moved to Pittsburgh. Recently, I have been asked by our local leader to participate with the young men ages 14 and 15 in our congregation. Part of what I do is teach lesson on Sundays, which is something that I really enjoy doing. Every week we get together with other youth from the church and we do service projects, play games, participate in scouting activities, learn about occupations and many other fun things. It has been a blessing to learn from the boys and to see what great people are coming up in the next generation.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine on this very topic. This friend of mine told me that growing up he used to be a religious person, believe in God and really tried to keep the commandments. In his adult years he started to have many serious trials that were very difficult for him to go through. He told me how he gradually stopped attending church, and then he stopped praying and then he stopped trying to keep the commandments. The next thing he knew he questioned if God was even real. As time has passed he has continued to question if God exists and has wavered between not believing and then wanting to believe. We had a sincere conversation about trials and about God. I was able to testify to my friend that everyone can know that our Father in Heaven is real and we can all come to know him. He is exactly that, our Father. As I spoke to my friend the spirit testified to me, and confirmed in my heart that if we pray and really have a sincere desire to know him and know if he is there that He, the Father of our spirits, will answer that prayer and we will know that He is. I am a dad as well and I love my kids, but our Heavenly Father loves us even more than we can imagine and he will answer our heart-felt prayers, especially when it comes to our desires to know him better.
