Hi I'm Martin

I'm a principal at a middle school for deaf children. I'm an Eagle Scout and yes, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a strong love of reading and I would use every chance I get to read up on many different things. I grew up in a different church where I would read the "missals" every week just to pass the time and I didn't know that it would lead me to a stronger understanding of the gospel many years later. I am a convert and I love my calling as a gospel doctrine teacher in the ward because it allows me to delve into a deeper understanding of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

After a few years in college, I decided to work for a while. It was not after about 9 months on a job that I began to realize that it was all work, eat, sleep and work...I thought to myself that there has to be more to life than that. I decided to go back to school, this time at another college closer to home, where I met a girl who was not an active member of the Church. Through the course of dating, she said she missed going to Church on Sundays. I told her that I would take her to her church because I believed that going to church was a good thing to do. Her church was not far from my parents' home so I thought it would be easy to drop her off and do my laundry at home. Every time I picked her up each week, I noticed that she was becoming happier as time went on. After two months, I got upset and asked her what was it about her church that made her happy. She slowly shared the gospel with me and at Christmas, she asked me to take her to Washington Temple where all the Christmas lights decorated the Visitors' Center and the Temple grounds. Once again, she was radiant. An Elder approached us and asked if we wanted to know more about the Church. After she said that she was already a member, I said yes so that I would get to know her and her church better. I filled out a card and a few days later, I met at the Elders at Church. I started reading the Book of Mormon found the book to be very comforting. I prayed and found it to be true. Even though I knew the book to be true, I still had a hard time accepting Joseph Smith as the Prophet of God. The Elders took me to the Visitors' Center and during one particular moment, where they announced that the Prophet was shot and killed by the mob, the Spirit touched me as never before and it was then that I knew the truth. I turned to my elders and told them that I know the Church to be true. I have since gone on a mission, married a beautiful young lady and have four wonderful children.

How I live my faith

Service has been in my vocabulary for as long as I can remember because I grew up as a Boy Scout. Because of this, I often seek opportunities to serve others and find tremendous joy in knowing that it benefits others. My parents have been good examples of what it means to serve others. Throughout my time as a member of the Church, I've learned a lot from serving in many different callings ranging from doing missionary work to running the computers.

What is the Book of Mormon?

It is the greatest book that you could ever find. It is an ancient record of families that left Jerusalem for the Americas and it is filled with wisdom as well as many truths in the gospel of Jesus Christ. It contains a record of Christ visiting people in the Americas which fulfills Christ's saying in the New Testament: "Other sheep I have which is not of this fold, them I must also visit..."
