Hi I'm Kim

I like to think I'm funny. I'm learning to knit. I have 5 nieces and nephews. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a food safety inspector for my state's department of agriculture. I have a degree in Food Science and a degree in Anthropology. I love to read, garden, joke around, watch movies, play with cats, and spend time with my nieces and nephews.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon is a true book. I feel my Heavenly Father's love for me when I read this book. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is in this church, and I draw nearer to Him as I participate. I grew up as a Mormon. At age 19 I decided I wanted to know for myself if the Book of Mormon was true. I read the book, prayed about it, and came to know for myself. Since that time, I have gone through various ups and downs, but as long as I have kept the Book of Mormon as a central part of my life, I have been able to become more than I thought was possible.

How I live my faith

The most important way I live my faith involves personal prayer and scripture study. I find that if I take the time every day to speak with my Heavenly Father, and then turn to the scriptures to hear him speaking back to me, I feel His love for me. It is so wonderful to know that I can develop a relationship with my Father in Heaven. I am able to take the peace, comfort and joy I gain from these simple acts with me everywhere I go. My life seems much more rich and fulfilling when I take the time to pray every day. I am strengthened and blessed by these small actions that bring me nearer to God on a daily basis.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

You might be surprised to learn that Mormon customs probably don't differ that much from your own. We typically dress nicely for church services, with the idea that dressing in your Sunday Best is an appropriate way to show respect to Heavenly Father. Women wear skirts and dresses, men wear slacks or suits and ties. Mormons celebrate lots of holidays! Everything from Birthdays to Arbor Day to Christmas is honored and celebrated by members of the Church. Since the Church is worldwide, there are many other holidays and special celebrations our members participate in around the world. One special celebration that is unique to Mormons is Pioneer Day, celebrated on July 24th. It is a commemoration of the day the Pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Mormon congregations typically host activities--sometimes on a monthly basis. We love potlucks, Pinewood Derbies, service projects, games, and theatrical performances. Show more Show less
