Hi I'm Laurie

I grew up in the United States, I love teaching and learning. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student who loves to learn and to be happy and share that happiness with others. I am really interested in education; I'm an elementary education major, currently working in a first grade classroom to prepare me to be a licensed teacher. I am a tutor of a fifth grader and a first grader. I love to read, bike, jog, hike, and go for walks (both alone and with others).

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I want to follow Jesus Christ as much as I possibly can. I love Him and His teachings. I have a testimony of Him as the Savior, my Savior and everyone else's as well. The Book of Mormon testifies of Him and teaches of Him beyond what the Bible contains; the scriptures work together to bear witness of Jesus Christ. I also am a Mormon because the President of the Church is a living Prophet of God: He has all of the keys of the priesthood, he has power to use the power of God here on the earth to bless the lives of everyone here. That priesthood power has allowed me to make covenants with God and to regularly participate in ordinances that are recognized by God and which strengthen my faith. I know these are true principles because I have prayed about them and felt peace as I progress through His Church--reading the Book of Mormon, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, sharing my testimony, partaking of the sacrament each Sabbath day, serving a mission, serving in the Church, and so on.

How I live my faith

I am a music co-chair in my ward. I choose the hymns to sing in Sacrament Meeting and I am responsible to strengthen the members of my ward through music. I have helped to organize a musical testimony meeting in which members were given the opportunity to choose a hymn that is meaningful to them, to share why with the congregation and then the congregation would sing the hymn. The Spirit of God was so strong in that meeting. I am currently working to organize a musical fireside with the theme of: "Gratitude is an expression of faith" President James E. Faust. Participating members will share a scripture to introduce their musical piece and then play. We are also organizing a Christmas music program.
