Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a dreamer, a reader, a busy mother of 6, devoted wife, a homemaker, a novice musician and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love spending time with my family, they are my focus right now. Whether it is help my husband with our family business (dental office), drive kids around and watch all that they are doing or cook delicious meals for them. They are my favorite part of the day. I love spending time outdoors, hiking and biking and enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I love reading, and getting lost in other worlds that I feel were created for me. I love to travel, and I love learning about the history of the places I visit and then pretending to be the tour guide for whoever happens to be with me-complete with umbrella. And I love the friends I have made all over the world from the time my husband spent in the army and I got to tag along. I also love music, singing and playing the piano.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it helps me to be a better person. Living the gospel of Jesus Christ every day makes me happy and fills my heart with love for others. It helps me to find answers to the questions I am seeking as I raise children, help my husband and live my life to the fullest.

How I live my faith

My faith isn't something I do it is part of who I am. I begin with prayer and often pray throughout the day for guidance. Right now in our ward I am part of the women's organization in our church, I am the secretary so I help the presidency by keeping notes, taking attendance and staying organized. I also play the piano for our women's meetings, not my favorite thing because I am not confident in my piano playing skills.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

There is something about reading the scriptures every day that seems to bring peace to the busyness and chaos that is often the life of a large family. When I begin each day with letting the Spirit of God teach me about life through the scriptures, I carry that spirit with me all day long. My patience with my family is strengthened, my desire to be happy and choose good things increases and I am able to use those things I am studying about to teach those around me. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I heard a story once about a guide who spent time with a man tracking animals to hunt. The man was doubting the existence of God, and the guide finally frustrated with all of the man's doubts showed the man the footprints and evidence that the bear they were hunting had passed this way even though they had not seen the bear. Then he pointed at the mountains and the heavens and said "these are the footprints of God". Psalms 19:1 says "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork". Whenever I spend time in the mountains and national parks I often feel the spirit witness to me that Heavenly Father created this earth out of his love for us. I feel peaceful and I can marvel in the beauty of creation. Another testimony to me that there is a God is the complexity and harmony of the human body. I have marveled at the birth of my children. Tiny little bodies functioning harmoniously housing a spirit. Each body different from their siblings, and yet perfect. Our bodies are so complex and we are still finding out the ways that our bodies work that it is difficult for me to imagine they came about by accident. They are just too perfect. When I think about all of creation, the world our bodies the life we lead, I feel the spirit witness that this did not happen by accident. They are the footprints of a loving God. What is the Relief Society?

Relief Society is a network of sisters all around the world. It is the largest women's organization anywhere in the world for those women 18 and older. For me it is a place where I find friends, build faith, strengthen my testimony and my family and serve others. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is believing something is real even though you have never seen it. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is "to hope for things which are not seen, which are true". Faith in God means that you know and trust that He is there. That belief then guides your actions. As you act on your faith, it will grow inside of you and become stronger. For example, if you study God's word in the scriptures then go about your day looking for signs that He is there, you can see His hand in parts of your life. Your faith will then be strengthened. Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

Our bodies and our spirits are connected. The body is the temple or holy residence for our spirits. If we do not take care of our bodies, then our spirits also suffer. We believe in keeping our bodies clean, pure, and healthy. In this way we honor our bodies as the gifts from God that they are and keep ourselves clean so our spirits can flourish. Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Most of what is done in the church is done to bless those who are not of our faith. We have a humanitarian aid program that serves in 167 different countries. In America you can look for the yellow vests or helping hands to find us helping in your community. In addition to that, the missionaries who serve around the world do not just preach the gospel but serve the people in the communities where they are. Show more Show less
