Hi I'm Michael

I'm a runner, singer, Violist, student, and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mechanical engineering major. I am also on the cross country and track team at my university. I have a very deep passion for running, which is one of the reasons I came to Ohio for school. There is nothing quite like a good, long run to relieve stress or like competing. I love that distance running is a great mental competition. As an engineering major, I obviously also like math and the sciences. I love to see why things work the way they do. I also love music. I have been in several choirs and play the Viola.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for my entire life. When I was 5 years old, my sister died in her sleep. I struggled for many years wondering why this happened and if God was there. One night I received an overwhelming confirmation from the Holy Ghost that God loves me and that He has a plan for me and my sister. I knew then that I would be able to live with my sister again if I lived worthily. This has been a driving force behind many of the decisions I make each day. Whenever I am down, I always am able to lean back on my testimony that God loves me and has a plan. I also have a deep testimony of the Book of Mormon. When I was 14, I was challenged to read from it for 15 minutes every day. I took this commitment to heart and have only missed one day since. I prayed intently to know if the Book of Mormon is true. After about 4 years of my daily study of it, I knelt and prayed again to know if it is true. I felt prompted to think of my life over those past 4 years. I then realized how much my life had changed. I was more successful academically and athletically. I was happier. I realized that even though my circumstances hadn't entirely changed, my perspective on life had. The Holy Ghost then confirmed to me that this was my testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. I know God lives. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God as well as the Bible. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, sent to restore Christ's church to the earth, with the same authority He gave His apostles anciently. God loves each of His children and has provided a way back to Him, through Christ's atonement. He is my best friend.

How I live my faith

As I was looking for a university to run at, I knew that I did not want to attend a university where the coach would require me to run on Sundays because I want to honor the Sabbath Day. I also wanted a coach who would allow me to serve a two year full-time mission for the church. This is one of the main reasons I am currently attending the university I am at. It was amazing to watch God guide me through the entire college selection process. I drive one and a half hours each way to attend church each week, and it is definitely worth it. I sing in my congregations choir. Every couple weeks a group of members of my congregation goes and plays games at a retirement home.
