Hi I'm Liz

I grew up in Seattle. I am a nursing student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Nursing Student and working part time at a local hospital. I love to go bowling with my friends every week and watching DVD's to unwind after a long day. I play around with photography when I have time and I love the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was growing up my mother was a member of the church, but my father was not. They divorced when I was 8 and by the time I was 10 my mom and I had stopped going at all. It wasn't until I was 14 that I realized how unhappy I was. I started going to an early morning class that Mormon high school kids take to learn more about what we believe and soon I was attending Sunday meetings again. I remember my first Sunday back. I stood out in the foyer of our building watching people I had known my whole life walk into the chapel. I felt their love. I felt welcomed despite the different path my life had taken. That was when I knew where I needed to be, that the Gospel had to be a priority in my life. Life is never easy. We struggle with the weight of work, money, family, and school every day. The things I have learned, that I continue to learn from our church help me find balance. They don't make the weight of this life any lighter, but they strengthen my ability to bear up under it...and to find joy in it.

How I live my faith

In order to strengthen families our church encourages us to spend time with our families every Monday night. We call it Family Home Evening and it typically entails a spiritual thought or lesson and an activity. I attend a ward specifically for single adults. Many of us are here for school and have very little family in the area so we have our own "family Home Evening" as a ward family. In our ward I am the co-chair of the Family Home Evening Planning Committee and we plan out each week a spiritual thought to help uplift them, activities that will help us to build friendships, and service projects we can do in the community. We'll do everything from snow shoeing, to hiking, to cake decorating, or yard work for those who need the help.

Are Mormons Christians?

Liz
Mormons are Christians. The principal we believe are centered around Jesus Christ and his life and teachings. We believe in the teachings of the bible much like other Christian religions. But we have another book of scriptures called the Book of Mormon. It is the history of a family of Hebrews that left Jerusalem 1000 years before the birth of Christ and built up a civilization on the American continents. In it we learn of their trials of faith, their beliefs, and their lives as they looked forward to the coming of the messiah. We also learn of His visit to the Americas where Jesus Himself taught them the fullness of His Gospel. Show more Show less
