Hi I'm Ben.

I grew up in England,I completed trade school, spent two years in New Zealand on a mission then moved to America and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and have five children. We live in Colorado where we enjoy an average of 350+ days of sunshine a year - and that means a lot because I grew up in England. Of course, following Manchester United and recreational soccer are some of my favorite pastimes besides being with my wife and five children hiking the Rocky Mountains! I work for seminaries and institutes.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a different Christian faith and when I was 11 my parents divorced. The missionaries moved in next door and my mum started asking questions. I was along for the ride but as I walked into the back of the chapel I had an impression that came to me that "I would come to this place often, because it feels right." And I did. However, after joining the church with several members of my family it wasn't too long before I was the only one attending. It proved to save my life and sanity as a member family rescued me from what ended up as a transient life. These members acted on a prompting when praying to have more children. My future foster mum saw me across the chapel and the spirit said to her, "That's your new son." That's when she invited me to move in with them and they saw me through my latter teen years and my mission. Several months after I moved in they also took my younger brother in. If there is ever a testimony of the Savior's words, "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:" I have one. The Gospel has proven to bless me beyond anything I could have done for myself.

How I live my faith

My wife and I come from less than ideal backgrounds, but we have found the words of the Savior as quoted in John, "If any man will do the will he shall know the doctrine..." to be life changing. Since before we were married we have sought the wisdom and healing of the Lord and by living the principles of the Gospel we have a rich heritage together already. Such things as daily scriptures and prayer, family scripture and prayer, family home evening ( which is one in the week when we sit together as a family and discuss life and the gospel) and keeping the Sabbath day holy are fundamental to our personal happiness and family success. When we were young parents we were given an assignment to create a covenant time line for our family. By teaching our children the Gospel in such a way to prepare them for what comes next in their spiritual and secular development, we have found great direction, peace and purpose in all we do. One specific thing we have done as a family over the past six years is to visit a rest home a couple of miles down the street. My children and wife play music, sing and dance. I muster up the courage to occasionally sing a solo but I mainly tell jokes, although i am not sure how funny they are. However i do like to try and make them laugh and when they do it makes it all worth it. Having my children around these senior citizens has blessed our lives tremendously.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I was at a wedding party several years ago and someone asked me if I didn't find it strange that the Mormons were the only church to proclaim to have a prophet on the earth today. I felt that it was a fair enough question which deserved an honest answer. So I said " i think that it is wonderful that we have a prophet on the earth who talks with God and receives revelations with which to guide his children on the earth". As a young man i wondered how i could know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, the key to gaining a testimony of this is to read the Book of Mormon. If you read with a sincere heart and real intent he will manifest the truth of it to you. If the book is true, and I know that it is, then Joseph is a prophet. Some people say that God does not reveal more word today and that there is no need for more. I believe that of all the generations since Christ was upon the earth we need a living prophet today. I know that Thomas S Monson is just a man, but like the men of old some were called to be prophets and he is one of those men today. Show more Show less
