Hi I'm Kristy Rae

I love life, love people, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

Many people say I am a little crazy or intense, but I think I just love life! I am 23 years old, a college student studying Chinese and NGO management. I love and am quite obsessed with dancing (latin dancing in particular), singing, playing the piano, and anything that deals with creating something. I love to hike, camp, and just explore. I have lived in both Taiwan and Fiji for an extended amount of time and am trying to find a way to go to Africa and China in the near future. I love cultures, people, and asking lots of questions. I often try to do more than I can handle and thereby can be somewhat scattered:) I am currently teaching college students from China how to speak English and love working with them. I am the youngest of 7 children. I am a runner and just finished my first marathon in October. I am a wanna be song writer. I love people watching and I just love life. Life is not and has not always been easy. I have had my fair share of family deaths, over-worked days, 3 jobs at one time, break-ups, flunked tests, and dislocated arms, but I have realized that all these things have helped me learn and grow. I am determined to squeeze everything I can out of every day. I am a mover and a shaker, and no matter what happens in my life or around me I will make a good influence on this world!

Why I am a Mormon

Happiness! That is the simplest, yet most understandable reason why I'm a Mormon. The way a Mormon lives is one of happiness. I'll give you some examples: 1. I never get hang overs or get in accidence due to getting drunk. I've never seen being drunk really make anyone happy. 2. I never worry about having a child out of wedlock, getting an STD or being used by my boyfriend. I live so that I am in control of my body and thereby find joy that in the future I will give myself to my husband and no one else. 3. I will not get addicted to drugs or smoking that would cause adverse health affects and really bad breath!:) 4. My parents and family love eachother, and understand the need for forgiveness, change, and giving eachother 2nd, 3rd, 4th chances to change and improve. 5. Although I definatley do not have a lot of money and live pay check to pay check, I know that I will be ok and have seen many miracles as I have given money to those less fortunate than me through tithing. 6. Although I don't know everything I know who I am. I am a Child of God and he loves me and I love him. 7.I know why I'm here on this earth.I'm here to learn, grow, expereince hardships and challenges and then grow and become better from them so I can become more like Jesus Christ. 8. I know where I will go when I die. There is a plan called the Plan of Salvation. This has been told to us by a prophet of God. It lets us know what will happen. 9. I know that I am in charge of my life, yet when I make mistakes Jesus Christ can help me change. 10. Unlike everywhere else, we have a Prophet that lives on the earth today that guides us in the way of God. I know Thomas S. Monson is a prophet because I asked God and he told me. I'm mormon because mormon to me is another word for happiness!

How I live my faith

I follow the commandments, I try to serve and love those around me, I paid for myself to live in Taiwan for 1 1/2 year without my family to be a missionary and share what makes me so happy with others. That was a great time of my life. I currently have 3 girls that I visit. We call it visiting teaching. This means 1x a month I visit them and see how they are doing, I usually bring some cookies and share a message of Gods love for them. 1x a month I have 2 women visit me as well, and let me tell you they always come when I feel alone, weak and sad. I am really taken care of! I also organize activites every monday night for the college students where we read the scriptures and then play games and just have a good time together. I think living my faith is who I am. It is not just a church I belong to, it is who I am. I do not just want to talk about being and doing good. I want to be good and live it in all I do!

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Kristy Rae
I like to think of it like my parents. My mom and dad are 2 separate people, from 2 different states, but together they have the same purpose of supporting our family. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are 2 different books from different parts of the world both written by prophets of God to help us learn more about Jesus Christ. With only one of them it is hard to decipher the truth---- this is why there are more than 100 christian churches, everyone has a different interpretation of the Bible. Yet, if you have 2 books that testify of eachother, then it is the words are clearer. Joseph Smith obtain the writings of the Book of Mormon from God's guidance. Just like Moses received the 10 commandments, Joseph Smith receive the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Kristy Rae
That answer is simple, because baptism is essential to go to heaven. I think of it like this: If my mom has just cleaned the house and the carpet and I come home covered in mud, will she let me in the house? Ofcourse not! She will make me wash off before entering the house. This is just like heaven. In the Bible God has told us that "no unclean thing can enter into the kingdom of God." In this earth life we do alot of stupid things. We make mistakes, we all do!But, when we are baptized all of our previous sins are forgotten.... literally you have a new start amd are clean. I have been baptized, and therefore have began my journey to heaven, but many of my ancestors did not ever learn of Jesus Christ, and thereby never had the opportunity to get baptized. If baptism is a pre-requisite to entering heaven, then this would be unfair for them. They would have no chance to live with God again. But, God loves us, he is our Heavenly Father and he is fair. So, he created a way that even those who pass on without baptism can have the opportunity to receive baptism. Soooo, we take their names and perform baptisms by proxy for them. Yet, many people have a false idea that we are forcing these deceased people to join the church....... this is not so! We are baptised in proxy for them so that they can choose to accept it. It is like a candy bar- if I bought one and handed it to you, you still have the choice to accept or reject it. We are simply giving the opportunity to those we love to accept this opportunity.
