Hi I'm Douglas

I grew up in a military family. I have lived, studied, traveled, and worked in many areas of the world. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of five children and have been married to my beautiful wife for over 22 years. My father was in the military, so we moved regularly while I was young, even living in Germany for six years. As an adult, I have studied in China, traveled to most continents for business and fun, and have been exposed to many different countries, cultures, and situations.

Why I am a Mormon

My reasons for being a Mormon are deeply personal. I was born into a faithful Mormon family, and raised in the Church. However, as life goes on, I needed to make my own choices if I was going to continue living the religion, or not. Logically, I have never experienced a religion that so fully meets the spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual needs in a more common sense and globally consistent way. Personally, I have had many spiritual experiences that have witnessed the truthfulness of the Gospel to me. I simply cannot deny my faith. It is the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gospel of true happiness.

How I live my faith

I believe we live our faith in every deed we do, every day. I live my faith by trying to be a good husband, a good father, a good neighbor, a good employee, and a decent person to those whom I associate with. Being a faithful member of our church requires service, and because we do not have a paid clergy, many of us volunteer and are asked to participate in various responsibilities within our local congregations. I currently serve in a leadership position that requires me to help oversee our children's groups, youth groups, and the general management of my neighborhood congregation. I willingly spend about 15 to 20 hours a week in my church responsibilities, and feel that my family and I receive great blessings for that service.

Who are the Mormons?

Douglas
A Mormon is a common term used to refer to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are referred to as Mormons because of a revealed sacred scripture called the Book of Mormon, which in addition to the Holy Bible, and Doctrine and Covenants, make up our standard works of scripture. Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Douglas
All young men should live their lives worthy to accept a call to serve a mission. All young women should keep it as an option, if the timing and opportunity arises. Is it a requirement? No, we do not have to serve. But, having served as a missionary in Asia, I can testify that it is an incredibly fulfilling opportunity, one that I would definitely encourage my children to pursue.
