Hi I'm Stan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband (married 25 years), a father of three and a business lawyer. I'm a writer (fiction) and literary agent. I play the guitar, I sing, I hike and I like photography.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a very deep and fulfilling faith that we have a living prophet today named Thomas Monson, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, that the Book of Mormon is a good and true book and that Jesus Christ really lived and really suffered and died for us and was resurrected. I am also convinced that the fulness of Christ's gospel is found in only one place currently, and that is the LDS (Mormon) Church. This testimony provides me with a great sense of peace and happiness. How did I get this testimony? The seed was planted by my parents, who are faithful members. The seed sprouted when I read the Book of Mormon as a college student and prayed for my own confirmation that it was true. But the seed has grown far beyond that now through many years of attendance at Church, of service in the Church, of studying and praying and attending the Temple.

How I live my faith

I have found tremendous peace and happiness through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has helped me be a better father and husband because I have tried to be sensitive to the voice of my conscience (which Mormons refer to as the spirit or light of Christ). I am so grateful for the chance to serve in Church callings, which provide me with the chance to interact with members and non-members who attend Church meetings. Right now I'm a Sunday School teacher, which I really love. I get to study the Old Testament every week and I really enjoy studying it. I try to do something kind for someone else every day. I also love being a Home Teacher, which is a Church assignment every male member receives (female members are Visiting Teachers) to visit a few families every month and help watch out for them. I watch out for two widows and an empty-nester couple and I have come to care about these people that I never would have interacted with otherwise.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes! I love the stories of Moses found in the Old Testament. I have read them many times. One wonderful thing about Moses is that he pled with God for the welfare of the children of Israel, sometimes pleading with God to be patient with their continued sins. Another wonderful thing about Moses is that even though he loved the people and pled with God for their welfare, at the end of the day he carried God's message to the people. Often it was a painful message, something they didn't want to hear but needed to hear. He was a prophet. We have one today who performs this same role. His name is Thomas S. Monson. He loves all people and I am certain he pleads with God for all people, but like Moses, he also must deliver God's message to us. Sometimes it is not what we want to hear, but any real prophet would inevitably be required to call people to repentance. Show more Show less
